Bringing this down from the ideological to the individual, a Melbourne schoolkid, born in Australia to Iranian parents has been refused a visa/entry to the US to attend a ‘Space Camp’.
This is one of those smart, nerdy kids who have studied hard to have such a brilliant opportunity, but because he is a dual-national (Iran/Aus) he’s deemed a threat to US security?
Fucking asshole shitheel Sean Spicer uses the killing of Muslims by a (suspected as of this moment) fucking anti-immigrant white supremacist Trump-supporting terrorist asshole
To do what?
To promote Trump’s shitty order to keep scary Muslims out of the US.
Does this make any kind of sense whatsoever? The president is being proactive? What the fuck? Keeping Muslim refugees, students and tech workers out of the country is going to help protect us from White supremacist asshole shitty murderers who go to a mosque and kill Muslims? WHAT. THE. FUCK.
To bring this back from the Okrahoma! Show* to the topic at hand, I was particularly disturbed by Steve Bannon’s role in this fiasco and simultaneous appointment to the National Security Council. I have therefore written my Senators to urge them to have Bannon subpoenaed by a Senate committee to answer for his role in this disgusting business.
Please consider sending the same to your Senators. As the condemnation has come from both sides of the aisle, I have a slim hope that this might actually happen with enough pressure.
*The billionth rehash of the election predictions “debate”, aka The Last Remake of Bad Jest.
Of course it could. Twitter is a private enterprise. They have a right to say what goes on in “their house”. Since they are not The Government, there would be no room to cry about freedoms being abridged either.
I think it would be hilarious.
Even better, if they justify it by saying they are clamping down on “fake news”.
He also claimed that if word on the ban got out, terrorists would be flocking to the airports to fly here before the door is shut.
Probably has never heard of the visas needed to get here.
Why haven’t the terrorists been flying here for the last 15 years? What have they been waiting for?
And if that was really a concern, then haven’t they just alerted all the terrorists from the countries not covered by then ban (the ones where we’ve actually been attacked from) that they should hurry up and get here before the door slams on them?
Nope, but to my everlasting shame my first thought after I read the news wasn’t sympathy, it was “Now I have to hear about how this means the ban was a good idea.”
It takes some real mental gymnastics (and a decided lack of heart) to believe something like this could help further their ill-conceived agenda…but I was pretty confident they could pull it off.
I don’t post all that much, but the sheer stupidity of all this just boggles my mind. Ignore the heartlessness if you want, it’s just an idiotic plan if your goal is to make your country safer. It isn’t even really working if your goal was to unite the country in fear…
Also, regarding the Terrorists flocking to the USA to try and beat the ban…I’ve posted this before, but it was comforting to me as a child. My dad once said that if someone wants to kill you badly enough, they will, so there isn’t any sense worrying about it. Just try to be good to people; it’s the only thing you can do. My point is, if they are angry enough, they will find a way.
All this shit does, is validate and help ISIS. They can now say to their followers and prospective friends…
“See that shit? This is what we were warning you about. This is what we were fighting against”
And it will sell.
Trump is the best friend they have right now. He is a walking talking ISIS advertisement.
It looks like there was a “check and balance” that the Trump Regime missed in their rush to implement this new policy. So I fully expect that today is Sally Yate’s last day as Acting Attorney General.
Well no, but in a few days Jeff Sessions will definitely defend the policy. That’s why the article said it was “largely symbolic”. Shoulda said “wholly symbolic”.
The article mentioned that she is the only person who is authorized to sign foreign surveillance warrants.
It was mentioned on CNN that if she is fired, there will be no one to perform that duty.
Only a Senate confirmed person can sign those warrants.
I’ll bet Trump doesn’t know that.
…it clearly isn’t “wholly symbolic”. Because the executive order will not be defended in court until Yates is removed. “A few days time” may well be too late. Trump will act today.
