Well running coach, I’m guessing the odds are now worse than “Five will get you eight”. Regardless, the staff who wrote this executive order are probably getting their asses chewed out unless the way things played out were a calculated result to further a greater/more sinister aim. :dubious:
I wonder if there are Muslims arguing on a Arabic language SDMB? Some poor slob trying to argue for some peaceful resolutions, some way to not get folks killed. And his main antagonist just goes on and on about how America hates Islam, how they hate Muslilms, how only war on Americans and Westerners in general will stop them from killing every Muslim.
“You don’t think they all want us dead? Look who they elected! Look what he’s doing!”
And every few days, or hours, he’s the guy who gets to gloat about how, every day and every hour, America is eager to prove him right.
“Blessed are the peace-makers”? “Outnumbered” are the peace-makers.
Bet right now, this minute, tonight, Joe Jihad is pointing out that America will help the Christian refugees, and just leave the Muslims to die. And poor ol’ Achmed al-lucidator is trying to think of something to say. And just can’t.
All the more reason to get out there to those protests. Let the world see that a hell of a lot of us are not okay with this.
Not that I think that your average Jahfar Jihad is likely to care, because his mind was made up long ago. But a lot of other people will find it hopeful and reassuring.
Isn’t that a great sentiment? Yes, yes it is. Thanks so much for letting us all know what a true leader does. And of course, almost 40,000 Syrian refugeeshave been resettled in Canada recently. There are some amazing stories at the link.
It makes us proud of our country. Thanks again for helping bring this to everyone’s attention.
Robert Reich says that this has been one of the most alarming weeks in US political history. He’s right. The President has done all manner of nutty things that shouldn’t be done, not to mention his degrading of the overall dignity of the office of the President.
But how do you attack a President whose crazy actions are simply in keeping the promises he made? People voted for this. He lost the popular vote, sure, but he won 30 states. And so far, every one of his executive actions have been things he made a big part of his campaign. He said he would do these things, and he did.
This is a very unusual situation in American politics. While it’s true that Presidents do keep more of their promises than is generally believed, it’s often easy for those of us who follow this stuff closely what is just campaign talk and what is real. And you had to figure that a lot of the stuff that came out of Trump’s mouth, had it been a typical Republican saying them, it would have been just to whip up the rubes. But in Trump’s case, those were his actual policies! But isn’t that good that he’s doing exactly what he’s been elected to do?
it seems to me that we can criticize the policies, as Robert Reich and other liberals(and many conservatives) are doing, but what seems to be missing from their attacks is the fact that the country voted for this. Well, perhaps not the country as a whole, but majorities or near-majorities in 30 states. Attacking Trump’s policies without attempting to persuade the people of those 30 states that they made the wrong choice doesn’t strike me as likely to get anyone very far.
I suppose the strategy could be to motivate liberals to turn out and vote, but color me skeptical that it will actually happen. That’s been tried every time a Republican President has been in office, at least since Nixon, and the tide never turns until independent voters also get fed up. Base mobilization will never beat Trump by itself.
Your own posting history is the cite. Every post is more ignorant than the one before. You’re the mutant creature obtained when Clothahump’s brain is transferred into a dung beetle.
And not to be outdone, Blinkyandpinky throws its hat into the ring in the contest for stupidest Doper ever.
Will Asghar Farhadi be allowed into Amerika to receive his possible Oscar? If not, maybe the Academy should show huuuge gumption and move the entire ceremony to Europe.
No. Why would it be? Doing evil when you’ve said you’d do evil isn’t good.
It can’t be done; one of the mistakes of the Democrats has been their repeated attempts to persuade the unpersuadable. They are unlikely to even hear any attempts to do so; they only listen to their far right propaganda providers.
And if they do hear; well, we’re all parasitic Satanic traitors, so they won’t listen.
True, but we also live in a democracy, or republic if you will, and keeping campaign promises to the letter SHOULD be normal. The fact that it isn’t is a big factor in why Trump is in the White House right now.
Then you’re basically giving up on winning elections.
