Trump's indictment--does it matter?

Thanks. I had heard that there was a document about a wild claim that could not be established. This must be it. But, as suspected, nothing related to the laptop.

As Dirty Harry almost said:

Nuthin’ wrong with a weaponized Justice Department. 'Slong as the right people get weaponized."

In case anyone doesn’t know this, the 5 million dollar bribe to fire a prosecutor is pure performative Republican bullshit.

Joe Biden DID, along with leaders of many other Western countries, push for the firing of a Ukrainian prosecutor that was investing the oligarch owner of Burisma, Myron Zlochevsky.

But the reason that the prosecutor was fired was that he was in collusion with Zlochevsky to obstruct the investigation. This collusion resulted in some ill-gotten gains that had been frozen in Great Britain being returned to Zlochevsky, which lead to the outrage that resulted in his firing.

So the firing of the prosecutor went AGAINST the interests of Burisma.

Now, I will agree that Hunter Biden joining the board of Burisma was not a good look. But in addition to noting that Joe Biden, unlike Trump, has never been in business with his adult children I would also like to note that at the time the US was encouraging Westerners to join the boards of companies like Burisma as part of their anti-corruption initiatives.

Isn’t this a great day for America? Once again we are showing that we still resolve problems here through our justice system. Donald Trump hasn’t been convicted of any federal crime so far, and now that he’s accused of committing crimes he will still be presumed innocent by the justice system and have the opportunity to argue that he is innocent at trial, with jury making the decision if he so chooses.

His supporters won’t realize they should be outraged at Trump’s post because they are convinced this is normal. The idea that Joe Biden allows the Justice Department to make prosecution decisions without political interference is inconceivable to some.

Do our high schools still have a year of civics where students are taught how the branches of government, including the justice system, work? That’s the only way I can think of to combat the excessive cynicism Trump is feeding here.

I’m pretty sure Republicans would shoot that commie idea down right away, as being too “woke”.

They just announced that his passports will NOT be held, and that there will be NO travel restrictions at all.
They didn’t even mug shot the traitor.

I’m amazed that a lot of you don’t think this case is the big one. Espionage is extremely serious. Trump almost certainly sold important national secrets, and who knows to whom. Given a large portion of his base are people who would claim they were patriotic (and who are ultra-nationalistic), this is easily the biggest potential poison to them. They’d probably cheer on another 10 sexual assault defamation cases. They’d dismiss the Georgia election stuff as some sort of effort to fight the stolen election. They’re pro January 6/insurrection.

But if we can prove that Trump is selling nuclear/military/espionage secrets to another country, especially a competitor, that would one of the only things in the world that could potentially shake them out of the dumbest fucking cult of all time. In my view, in terms of finally potentially getting some justice on Trump and more importantly potentially leaving a bad taste of Trumpism in everyone’s mouth and excising this cancer, this case is orders of magnitude more important than any of the others.

I do think the power of the cult may prevail, but this will be the biggest threat to that by far.

Any explanation given for this?

Definitely. We have the Speaker of the House saying it’s no big deal that the docs were in a bathroom because bathrooms can be locked. We have a poster here saying it’s no big deal.

I’m not seeing anything in the indictment pertaining to selling secrets, but there’s parts of it dealing with him disseminating secrets to people with no security clearances.

This case is perhaps the most clear cut of all the legal perils Trump is facing. The only thing off-putting to me about the whole situation is the untimely admission that Biden and Pence also held classified documents (which both promptly returned and completely cooperated with the authorities). This is just enough of a fig leaf for the Right Wing media to gin up false equivalence arguments.

Not yet. I have no evidence at all, but I’m thinking it was to partially appease the armed mob outside. Trump can claim that, since he is free to do what he wants and go where he wants, he isn’t really under arrest.

The selling secrets part is just an assumption on my part. I have no idea if they would have evidence to that effect or if it’s legally better to simply stick to what they can solidly prove, which is damning enough. But there’s practically no chance Trump wasn’t selling state secrets. What would stop him? It’s completely consistent with everything he did.

Even if he somehow didn’t, we know Chinese spies were caught snooping around his place and that documented were not stored securely, so even if he didn’t sell them, he almost certainly lost national secrets.

But yes, you’re right, there’s nothing about selling secrets yet. If it happened, I certainly hope it comes up at the trial.

At one point during the circus I switched over to Fox News. A guest was arguing that if somebody gives classified secrets to a reporter and the reporter prints it for the world to see, the reporter goes to jail and then does not give up his source. That’s the real crime.

I really can’t even comprehend the conservative mind.

And that’s kind of true… he still has yet to feel the pain of any consequences of his actions/decisions.

I don’t really get the passport thing, but I assume not restricting his movement is related to not interfering with his campaign. Which, fine, fair enough.

The intelligence evaluation following this security breach will almost certainly have concluded that any information stored at Mar A Lago is presumed to have already been compromised by foreign governments.

he can campaign in the states, he doesn’t need to go outside of the country for that.

Nope.

  1. Fake news. Never happened. Proof was fabricated by the Deep State/Lizard People.

  2. The people he gave them to are now the Good Guys. We support them. Always have.

Cultists will kill themselves rather than admit the truth.

Cultists are more likely to kill others first, though.
