Trump's Shutdown

Is it possible for the Dems to amend the bill (?) further to make DACA permanent (plus whatever else) and offer it back?

Maybe the Dems can amend it to make DACA permanent AND take out wall funding.

TSA sick-outs hit 10% over the weekend:

5 weeks without pay… how much longer can these folks continue before they face economic collapses?

Why can’t they just ask their daddies for money??

Or take out a loan with a Russian oligarch?

“I am altering the deal. Pray I don’t alter it any further.”

Mmm… even if the wall is a boondoggle settling DACA would be worth something wouldn’t it. Weren’t the Dems willing to offer a lot more for it before?

$3bn worth of “fencing” and permanent DACA solution?

Or buy rights to a drug for seriously ill patients and then mark it up by %5000 percent?

Not thinking like Trump. They should remove the funding for the fencing, and offer to put it back in return for permanent DACA and the government reopening.

Common wisdom is to save six months of living expenses. Five weeks should not be a problem.

Since Individual-1 has tried to “negotiate” something, I think the Dems should counteroffer:

"Obviously border security is important to us all. Equally obviously federal funds are limited, so no one wants to spend money on something that’s ineffective.

"Therefore, we propose this: We jointly end the government shutdown. We budget $100 million for a thorough cost/benefit analysis of the various ways of protecting our southern border. In return, you restore DACA.

“Deal?”

See? Lots of solutions!

“Common wisdom”? Even if this characterization is true, so what? Maybe you missed the part about the last 30 years where more people than ever, about 4 out of 5, are living paycheck to paycheck? That means that about 80% of people have no savings, let alone 6 months worth of living expenses. But hey: why should facts matter?

That side thinks:

(A) Federal workers are all wealthy from the unearned perks they get from tax dollars.

(B) Even if not, poverty is the fault of the poor, so why should I weep over someone who bought a new Lincoln instead of food? That’s why they’re living paycheck to paycheck, right? Move, get a better education, get a better job, poverty versus being able to eat is 100% in individual control.

This is going to cause some uproar in the Monty extended family if it continues much longer. Mrs. Monty, being a citizen of the ROK, only needs to get an ESTA to enter the US, but she must get that. AFAIK, that’s part of what’s not being done at the moment with the Department of State’s nonessential services shut down. One of my nieces is getting married in April. That’s not all that far off. We’d like to fly into the country, attend the wedding, meet all the relatives, and, of course, return back to where we live. Looks like that’s all way up in the air right now.

And, of course, a lot of the extended family are trumpeters so they’re not seeing who’s really the cause of this nonsense.

I predict a massive sickout by TSA in the week before the Super Bowl causing airport shutdowns around the country so players and fans cannot travel to Atlanta. NFL owners will be living in Mitch McConnell’s head until he allows a vote on the House bill to reopen the government.

I’ve been thinking that the air traffic controllers could end this rightawayquick if they got together and said they were holding a work stoppage until a bill is passed to reopen the government.

Does Trump still resent not ever having an NFL team?

Trump would, without a doubt, fire every one of the ATCs, just like Reagan did. And then that would add more to the military’s mission.

Bolding below mine.

So, what you’re suggesting is to cut off all funds to Trump himself?

Except the last “work stoppage” on the part of air controllers resulted in all of them being fired. Even if you didn’t know that, they haven’t forgotten. Things haven’t gotten to the point where any significant number of them feeling like metaphorically falling on their sword for the benefit of the nation.
