It would take a whopping 4 senators defecting to the democratic caucus to flip the senate. 4. That there aren’t 4 senators disgusted enough by Trump and McConnell’s behavior to do that is testament to how utterly fucked we all are.
What do they do when there aren’t any more planes?

;)
The humor in that comes from the slight exaggeration of circumstances and perspective. The tragedy in that comes from the fact that it’s only a slight exaggeration of reality.
I dunno. That question is above my pay grade.
Four to pass the measure, but another 7 would be needed to override the veto. Your sentiment still stands, though.
Barring re-election (shudder) Trump has 2 years to complete MAGA!. He’s really kicking ass so far, huh?
Naw, a few years back my plane wouldn’t leave because there were not enough scabs to load our luggage during the Northwest bag handler strike in MSP.
The shutdown is over. Trump caved.
(For three weeks, but still…)
That’s an interesting point. How much does China spend on wall maintenance for their tourist attraction?
Sorry, cite:
So I guess now he’s going to nominate himself for a Nobel prize.
For three weeks. I’m trying to imagine Trump calling for another shutdown in three weeks, and how McConnell would feel about backing his play that time.
McConnell’s willingness to fuck over the country for partisan gain has surprised me before, but even so I have a hard time seeing him playing ball with the president on another go-round.
Apparently, in regards to the government shutdown, he told fellow Republicans, “There’s no education in the second kick of a mule.”
Only he said that in 2013, in regard to the shutdown over ObamaCare.
Surely he’d not see much education in the mule’s fifth kick. Right?
Right?
Ha! I get your point, but baggage handlers aren’t federal employees, and the FAA wouldn’t have instituted formal traffic-management programs because an airline was having a labor dispute.
Of course, air traffic controllers always get blamed for delays. If you’re ever on a plane and the pilot gets on the intercom and tells you there’s an “ATC delay,” he’s probably not telling you the truth. I’ve heard of pilots blaming ATC when they’ve been delayed by mechanical issues, or a mixup with the ground crew, or some other fault of the airline or the airport, not air traffic control. It’s funny to us, kinda.
If it comes to that, and it comes back to the senate to override the veto, and already done so in the house, then the shutdown fall squarely on the republican senators that vote against it. They have no cover or even fig leaf to hide behind.
That’s what prompted my thought on that, actually. A friend suggested that the airlines hire ATC and run it themselves.
I see this as a very suboptimal solution, even if necessary, and largely due to the fact that it would completely screw anyone that is not a major airline.
That they take all comers first come first served is the current rules, and they are the rules that I would agree should stick around. My concern is that those rules get changed due to “necessity”.
Maybe the airlines start charging for the service, and you start having to pay an ATC fee when you file your flight plan. That would be the least disruptive way I can think of that playing out.
When you consider the fact that America was pretty great to begin with, what he’s doing for the first term is turning America into a dystopian hellscape.
I’d say he’s ahead of schedule on that one.
Clearly a Trump version of Poe’s Law is required, in that no possible joke about his stupidity can be readily distinguished from his actual moments of stupidity.
The suspicion is that he goes with the “national emergency” option at the end of three weeks instead of another shutdown.
I don’t think that’s a suspicion, he outright said he would.
So this 3 week CR, this is the exact bill that failed yesterday? The one put forth by democrats?
“National Emergency” doesn’t get him his wall, though.
The emergency itself will be challenged in courts, taking years.
Presuming it goes in Individual-1’s favor, then property rights fights will take years as well. Also, efforts to build the wall on national park land will be challenged, as well as a whole host of other legal challenges which will happen.
The challenges will take longer than Individual-1 has in the WH, even if Putin wins him another election.
National Emergency = No Wall. Guarantee it.
