It wasn’t okay to begin with; it was still recovering wages and wealth lost from a recession, and political corruption resulted in paralytic gridlock, which meant that people began to lose faith in the institutions and their ability to make government work for people.
And if they felt that way before, they’re really, really going to feel that way now. Yes, they’re missing the obvious, which is that if we hire the right people to run the government, the government actually does fairly well. The problem is that the average voter is becoming increasingly incompetent at voting:
Great, so rather than learning the lesson, which is vote for people who understand how the political system works, keep voting against the status quo for people who have no idea what they’re doing.
Yep, that’s how the president is measured by most voters. If they have a job, then the president must be doing his job. If they’re out of work, it’s the president’s fault. No real ability to analyze politics beyond that very elementary school level.
Sorry, folks, but we’re gonna have to pay a price for this. Might as well be sooner rather than later.
This is shaping up to be Trump’s potential Waterloo.
Did any seismographs capture the cave-in?
That’s the corner he’s painted himself into, though. On Feb 15th he’s not going to have a wall. 3 weeks of congressional “negotiations” isn’t going to result in $5.7B for a wall. He said in his speech today that if he didn’t get a security package he liked, the government would either shut down again or he’d declare a national emergency. I don’t see him doing another shutdown, it clearly didn’t work politically, so he’s only got one other option.
Unless, of course, congress gives him the wall or he drops it altogether, but if either of those things happen then this whole thing was for nothing and I’m going to move somewhere less insane.
Well, that certainly sounds appropriate! Greatest prezdint ehvur…
This is his out. He’ll do the national emergency, knowing that it won’t actually happen. And then blame liberal activist judges for thwarting the will of the people. It’s his only play.
Hey, I just found a massive cave! Who wants to go spelunking?
I’m enjoying this day. A lot.
I think he’s leaning toward national emergency, but I agree with JohnT that it’ll get challenged immediately. Anyone with a law degree or extensive political science knowledge who can game out the various scenarios of an emergency?
Colour me surprised to see a post from you that isn’t calling 30% of Americans worthy of a trip to the firing squad. I gather Trump’s failures are like Xanax to you.
A bunch of damned legal challenges which, by the very nature of this case, will have to wind its way to the USSC.
Then, if they rule in Dotards favor, then a whole bunch of legal challenges in Federal, CA, AZ, NM, and TX courts about property rights, etc.
It will never get built.
(Anyway, weren’t they going to declare the national emergency this past Saturday?)
Hey, it’s an emergency. There’s no point rushing it.
The Super Bowl is a week from Sunday. Did someone clue him in to how he’d look if airport slowdowns continued to increase?
(bolding mine)
If you really think that, you haven’t been paying attention. If you really think that, the turmoil of the next 8-12 years is gonna really surprise you.
Nothing I wrote in this post is untrue today.
The government does not and has not been working for the majority of Americans for several decades now: it serves the wealthy almost exclusively, most often to the detriment of the masses. That was true 3 years ago when I wrote that OP and it’s still true today.
How can you, all of you, not see that?
Trump just made himself look like the biggest wimp ever. He went after Pelosi and then had to back down. Now the aviation industry is making him cave as well. Master negotiation skills!
From here:
And a reminder that while federal employees will get back-pay, contractors will not. Many of them are low paid employees and are in the worst position to absorb lost paychecks. These include janitors and food service employees.
Pals and gals, this is not a time for gloating! (snicker) Or crowing, lording it over, (chuckle, chortle) but a time of acceptance and redemption (ROFLMAO!)
Such a genteel and proper audience, but otherwise I would suggest someone make up a disgusting photoshop of Ann of Green Goebbels Coulter pegging Il Douche, while Nancy polishes and put away her steel ruler.
Maybe the solution to the border crisis is not deporting 22 million illegals but one Jared Kushner.
Love the comments!
