So, has anybody checked out Trust Me on TNT? What’d ya think?
After 2 eps, I think it has potential. Tom Cavanagh and Eric McCormack have a nice snappy chemistry and the scripts have shown some wit.
A few quibbles: they need to tone down the craziness of the neurotic female writer a bit, and I’d love to see the Chicago setting used to better advantage than a Blackhawks jersey on a wall and a conversation about the Tribune Tower.
The show hasn’t quite found its groove yet, but I’m going to stick with it for a while. There’s definitely something there, and I believe it will improve.
It’s a little zany- particularly the Tom Cavanagh character. I hate his delivery and personality in this, to the point where I cringe when he’s on screen. Not sure what that’s all about.
The dialogue for most of the characters seems to be written for a single personality. What I mean is, several characters have the same fast-talking, triple-caffeinated, too-much-information style of speaking. Like Monica Potter’s character the day after they all took the young kid out for drinks- she came into McCormack’s office the next day and had a little jabbery/frenetic monologue that just didn’t really ring true as a distinct personality. Cavanagh already cornered that market- as unappealing as it is- so there isn’t room for it with her. She needs to be the stable one. The ad exec that had a heart attack in the first ep was also poorly written; his personality started at ‘enraged asshole’ and had nowhere to go.
My wife likes it so I’ll give it a couple more eps. I think there’s a thread of something there; if they nurture it and get better writers, it might go somewhere. If it doesn’t change in 2-3 more eps, it’s dead to me.
