What is it with people trying to guess (or influence) Moderator actions?
So many times I see posts with no informative/interesting/humorous content, simply stating the fact that the thread is going to be moved/closed/etc or a user yelled at/banned when most of the time nothing happens at all. I won’t give any examples, I don’t want to make any enemies yet.
I’m just sick of seeing it, let the Moderators decide that.
I’m just a newbie, so don’t hate me. I just needed to vent.
You know, I think it should be up to the mods as to whether this is really an issue, don’t you?

I assume you’re referring to the standard “This is going to be moved to the Pit soon” kind of posts. Yeah, I’ve seen those. Never really get bothered by it. In almost every thread, especially in MPSIMS, IMHO, or the Pit, you’re going to get the “Drive-by Quick-post”… a one- or two-sentence post that simply provides a (often-bad) pun. handy is good with those, as is tracer (and myself, I’m better than both of them put together :D).
I wouldn’t be too troubled by it. I mean, yeah, there’s really no point to it, but does every post need a point? If it did, the SDMB would never have gotten larger than GQ.
Anyhoo, I’ll see you around the Boards. Oh, and watch out for a shmuck named “Coldfire”… he’s a bitch.

Sorry, sorry, Clogbitch, I was too obscure. I meant that handy was good at the Drive-by Quick-posts. Y’know, the ones (much like yours above :D) that don’t add to the whole thread?

When you see that a thread has been moved it just means that the moderator felt the subject was more appropriate in the forum it was moved to. No insult or slight is ment or should be taken.
You mentioned seeing banned people. Most likely you saw banned names.
When you see a name banned, there is a reason even if one does not seem apparent. Most likely you’re seeing a person who was already banned who is trying to sneak back in with a fake name (referred to as a sock puppet). There are methods for banned people to return. Posting under a fake name is not one of them. In fact, posting under a fake name is against the rules and only compounds the problem.
I’m not trying to suck up now that you are a Mod. Veb (congrats btw), but have I told you lately that I love you ?
It’s a reasonable gripe.
There’s even a term for it in Transactional Analysis of Behavior:
“Let’s You and Him Fight”
If you’ve got a beef, state it, but don’t presume to drag 3rd parties into it to defend you.

SPOOFE had it right, sorta. Those Drive-By Quick Posts bother me, but only when they’re a “Countdown to the pit…” or “We’ll see how long it takes for you to be banned, OP type person” or “This belongs in MPSIMS…”.
I’m a big fan of puns and funny quips however, no problem there. In fact I’m guilty of a few myself (though maybe noone else thought they were funny).
And initiation rituals involving goats are OK, just as long as they’re not sacrificed or had sex with. If you feed them paper and shirts, that would be cool.
See the second post in this thread for an example of what I’m complaining about. In this case the person happened to be right though.
