(Old) Trying To Reason with Hurricane Season - A Hockey MMP

Happy birthday, shoe! :tada:

Yesterday was mostly spent puttering around the house, organizing/putting away odds and ends as things caught my eye. I don’t think anything “big” got done (I did not, in fact, finish unpacking the home office), but progress was still made. I also fired up my work laptop: after approving timesheets I triaged all of the messages that had hit my inbox since noon on Wednesday, and drafted a couple of emails to send first thing tomorrow morning. I spent a couple of hours doing all that, after which my street was finally reopened and it was time to head to my previous abode.

I cleared out the last few things that were in the house, and grabbed everything out of the laundry room that I care about: I left some Roundup, an old (but functioning) vacuum cleaner, and a partial case of commercial toilet paper that I’d purchased during the pandemic. Hopefully the next tenant won’t mind getting rid of those things if they don’t want them. Then I went to the grocery store. It was HOT yesterday (91°F), and of course due to the street issue I was doing all of that during the hottest part of the day, so after bringing in the groceries I only took some of the house stuff out of the car yesterday. I’ll finish that today.

I might also get my car washed today; it’s filthy. Now that I’ll be parking in a garage I’ll be able to keep it looking respectable for longer between washes. If I’m gonna do it I should probably go soon, though at 9:02am it’s already 77° – on the way to 90° again. Happily, the carwash is actually 0.7 miles closer to this house than my old one (heh).

The rest of today’s plan includes hanging the LR curtains, doing laundry here for the first time, puttering around some more, and waiting for Amazon: 6 items are supposed to be delivered today, including the new downstairs chair (:crossed_fingers:).

IIRC, you had a lot of trepidation about hosting an exchange student: I’m glad it worked out so well!

Hmmm, that would explain why I slowly but deliberately batted everything off the kitchen island yesterday…

I think if I’d been able to borrow an overstuffed chair I wouldn’t have ordered a couch yet, and probably would also put off doing so!

Hopefully yesterday was the worst of the pain and it starts easing a bit.

Agreed! Also, when mouth movements and sounds don’t match I find it highly distracting. And often I feel like a dubbed voice doesn’t quite “fit” the actor, which is also distracting. That said, I don’t have a lot of patience for subtitles due to my tendency to multitask while watching TV (I couldn’t get into the new season of Hijack because of all of the German) – so, I don’t watch much foreign TV. Except shows in French, like Lupin or The Agency, because that’s the language I studied and I like to play the “how much can I follow without reading the subtitles” game. I might have to check out The Thaw, though; it sounds interesting.

You really did – above the neck included!

Is it just me, or have you thinned/lightened your arm hair…?

That is so very cool (lovely voice or not)!

I feel ya. :people_hugging: I’ll be slammed all week, too. Tuesday will be particularly bad, with back-to-back meetings from 8am until 5pm…and I’m double-booked in two timeslots.
