It worked, thanks! Tonight was way less and went much more smoothly.
I believe our resident Former Floozy (JtheC) is in the same club.
Concur!
Per work tradition, for your birthday, you get to pick what flavor treat. I requested strawberry cupcakes, and the OtherOther Manager went ALL OUT with handmade frosting, and also brought some in chocolate AND vanilla, too, because why not?
Her: “I had extra frosting, so I decided to make more cupcakes.”
Me: “Good call.”
They were delishush, and I had THREE Y’ALL, one of each flavor.
Also, right at midnight, suddenly the music on our speaker stopped and I heard church bells chiming. I’m going, “What dafuq?” and suddenly it’s the “Happy Birthday” song and S.M. is serenading me at the top of her lungs - and she has a very lovely voice.
I teared up, absolutely.
ETA sorry about the double photo, I give up on fixing.
But … Check out the meticulously hand-folded wrappers:
Heh, that should have been saplings- they were substantially taller’n me, but still just about at the level where a spade and brute force works. Still a few more to go, plus a few more that I really would need to hulk out for.
I’m gonna have to get the flowering currant out- it smells great in spring and the bees do love it, but it’s waaaaay too big and it’s just in the wrong place. I’ll need another spring flowering shrub to make it up to the bees though. No-one wants sad bees.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis < snerk > 69! < snerk > Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 88 and cloudy. The big item on today’s agenda is in which I have Verger duty and so must serve both services. It’s also first Sunday brunch so we get to eat good for today’s main need to feed. Death chikin and cabbage casserole are ready to be baked and will bake whilst I purtify. OYKW gets the job of bringin’ them plus the cake to the church house when he comes for the ten-thirty service. The rest of the day will be spent in high RDOS inactivities.
JtC glad you had a fun day to yourself. Sometimes it’s nice just to treat yourself.
Lily our frogs hang out under the little deck just off the back porch. It’s about a foot off the ground and seems the perfect hidey hole for them and the geckos. Hope lovely wife’s finger is all better soonest.
Nettie good on DH and you for the bird rescue. I hope y’all are able to get updates cause I want updates as well.
Bright Tree Ollie knows his purpose it to look cute so he gets lots of treats and skritches.
This one?] doggio this should be required viewin’ in every high skool Amurrkin history class.
Mollie all I can say is, if you got it flaunt it!
MetalMouse I hope the sleep fairy was nice to you. The weather you get today is supposed to be with us tomorrow, so say TWPTB.
shoe those are some nummy lookin’ cupcakes! S.M lived up to her name with the cupcakes and the singin’.
Morning, mumpers! It’s currently 15c/59f with a predicted high of 17c/62f and cloudy. Weather app says “It’s fucking cloudy. I checked my pockets and I have no more fucks to give.”
Oopsie that’s very annoying, especialy since you’d planned the delivery around the road closure. I hope the HOA guy spends some time thinking about what he did!
Mattie from the MTTA said such awful things to you, and I’m sorry to be the one to tell you, but they’re all true! Did you have a good day at Pride? Our event seems to have gone well, the weather wasn’t great but the rain held off and it sounded like lots of fun was had.
I have to, in case I say things I really shouldn’t!
There are various restructures planned for the next couple of years and I am hoping quietly that one of them will push her into taking voluntary severance, or retiring. She said that she would hope I’d do my best to protect her (and her job) but frankly, I would prefer it if she left. If that makes me a bad person, I’ll take the hit.
Seanette I’m glad you were able to get your little houseguest to a rescue place, hopefully they will help the little one get airborne soon.
Yesterday was a busy but fun day. I was up early to go to the gym before road closures happened, and had no real plans for the rest of the day. 'im indoors was dropping not very subtle hints about wanting to go out, so we had lunch at home and then uber’d ourselves into town and went to the Posada. We left there and went across the road to the Lych Gate, then went down the road to the Clarendon Hotel. We were debating food options but the Clarendon has a new Nepalese kitchen so that decision was made for us by the very tempting waft of curry. We also channelled shoe and picked up a pizza on the way home.
Normally, we’d have half the pizza when we got home, and the other half for lunch the following day. However, today’s a bit different as we have a gig this afternoon up in Stoke. Thus it seemed like a sensible idea to have curry for dinner last night in the pub, I am doing bangers and mash at lunchtime, and we’ll have the cold pizza tonight when we come back from seeing Wicked Smile tonight. We should be back home around 8pm so food straight on a plate is a better idea for us.
And on that note, I need to go and find an appropriate t-shirt to wear!
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. Morning cleaning shall commence shortly, followed by afternoon sloth and F1. It’s currently 70 degrees Ferret Height(21.111 Centipedes)
We’re starting with 67 Ferrets on the way to 90 or more. I’ve already run the sprinkler on one section of the garden, but I’m not going out there to move it in robe and slippers. It’s enough of a pain doing it in jeans and sneaks. I’ll get to it after I shower and dress.
Plan for the day includes a run to Food Lion, maybe some yard work, and definitely cleaning the stovetop and kitchen floor. I kinda didn’t notice how gross the stove was after my sketty and chili cooking was done. In my defense, it’s a black cooktop and if the light isn’t on, it’s easy not to notice the mess. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
On to some replies:
Reminds me of the summers I worked at my dad’s office. He was the boss, so he controlled the thermostat. He spent the day in a suit and tie. The women in the office who wore light dresses also brought cardigans. I wasn’t smart enough in the beginning. There’s never a sensible setting when it comes to AC in public spaces, is there?
BOAT - Break Out Another Thousand. Yep.
We’ve narrowed it down to the water pump that moves the coolant thru the engine. I might be an impeller, or it might be a dead pump. FCD will have a look at it today. I just hope we didn’t do damage by running it hot - I don’t think it was long enough to warp anything.
We used to go to the one near us when we lived in FL - good, cheap food. But the last time we went (when visiting Ocala some years back) I was disappointed. It didn’t taste the same. There are none within 100 miles of us according to their website, but then I’ve been trying to watch what I eat, and most pasta dishes are just too much.
Otis, on the other hand, is definitely a sight-hunter. Last time I took him for a walk, he spied a squirrel and nearly dislocated my shoulder when he decided the hunt was on. I have to be more vigilant than he is or risk yanked down and dragged into the woods! There’s a disadvantage of having lost so much weight…
I got these to chase the woodpecker attacking my deck.
Fortunately, it’s not something that could get us in trouble. It’s not a requirement but it is a good idea to make sure we have all the safety items covered. It’s not wise to ignore safety.
FCD is still abed - good! He doesn’t get nearly enough sleep. I’m about to spring Otis and feed his fuzzy face. Then I need to catch up on the surfage I didn’t get to yesterday.
It’s a rainy morning in Elkhart, Indiana. The Weather Channel says the rain will quit at mid-day, giving us a muggy 80 ferrets. Maybe the ferrets will be making faces at each other, or maybe they’ll be robbing each other. I’ve never seen a ferret-to-English dictionary, so I don’t know what muggy might mean to the little critters. Today, they’re probably running sump pumps in their little burrows.
Andy Griffith or Kathy Bates?
Hippie, that quilt is amazing!
I started a new box of power domes for my hearing aids. That’s the little rubbery part I stick in my ears. I’m not sure how, but I got the wrong size. I went from a little too big to a little too small. When it’s too small, sound leaks around it, and the device does a feedback squeal. I ordered some in a medium size, and they should arrive today. In the meantime, I have one aid with a too-big dome, which leaks a little, and one too-little dome that leaks more. It’s going to be a screechy day until the new domes arrive.
Folks on the radio are warning us that it’s a big year for ticks. Yup, it’s a lot of tick talk.
Time for breakfast!
Yike, egad, and grawlix ! That was yesterday’s post, which I apparently did not send. Now, it is Sunday.
The new power domes arrived, and they fit just fine. Problem solved.
I got a late start, and I forgot to start the coffeemaker until after I had peeled my Mandarin orange. I’m just now gulping my first cup of coffee. Ah, that’s better. I’m going to close this post now, and come back to catch up later today.
Good morning (well, here in N. Ali-bama it’s a wet morning, with rain continuing into the afternoon). Mailed off the annual donation letters and picked up the Sunday NY TImes, so will not have to venture outside until dinnertime (Texas Roadhouse today). Outside of maybe going 7-for-7 on gym days this week, nothing much else is planned. 71F and only getting to 76F so the AC should have a break today.
doggio, looked at the scoreboard and that was crazy game, you were down 0-4 and then tied it in the last period before losing in the second OT. Hopefully spot didn’t scold you about your language…
Shoe, a most happy birthday and cupcakes and singing is a great way to celebrate it.
Happy Vergering, swampy!
Pretty good, wasn’t up until 6am so got about 7 hours sleepage.
boo fae, enjoy your Wicked Smile (great band name, BTW).
FCM, I have a black cooktop too, I agree it’s hard to see the messes (that is, when I bother to look for them). Good luck on the boat diagnostics.
Knots, just pulled up the Elkhart train station on Virtual Railfan and it looks dry there for today, which is good (and I got to watch the AMTRAK arrive). My hearing aids have domes but only to protect the device, hope you get one that fits–and I see you have.
So far I’ve pretty much stayed out of wooded areas so no ticks on me…yet.
And need to get about the Sunday internettin’ before dressing nice and dining out. Take care all.
It’s 45F and partly cloudy. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies that will change to mostly cloudy, with a daytime high of 64F. We received a lot of rain yesterday, and even some hail, but we never heard any thunderboomers.
Happy Birthday, Shoe!
Polar was quite the hunter. He was a stalker at night. However, I watched him leap up into the air to catch a bird mid-flight. He was successful, but I managed to retrieve the bird from his mouth. Unfortunately, the poor bird didn’t make it. There was also the squirrel he dropped on my feet…in my house. And, several 'possums. As he aged, he left the critters alone, thank goodness.
Buster and Maisie chase the squirrels along the fence line. The squirrels chew them out every day.
You look good, Mollie!
FCM, I’m sorry about the boat woes. I hope the inspection goes well.
Nettie, nice job on the rescue!
I got most of the house roll-sucked yesterday. I need to get the den today. I also dusted.
I’m not sure what today holds. Maybe an outing, maybe not. Since it’s supposed to be relatively dry, I should get the lawn mowed before rain moves back in tomorrow. I also need to get some stuff transplanted and continue widening my garden. Decisions, decisions…
Alright, time to get my day started. Please take care of yourselves.
Yesterday was mostly spent puttering around the house, organizing/putting away odds and ends as things caught my eye. I don’t think anything “big” got done (I did not, in fact, finish unpacking the home office), but progress was still made. I also fired up my work laptop: after approving timesheets I triaged all of the messages that had hit my inbox since noon on Wednesday, and drafted a couple of emails to send first thing tomorrow morning. I spent a couple of hours doing all that, after which my street was finally reopened and it was time to head to my previous abode.
I cleared out the last few things that were in the house, and grabbed everything out of the laundry room that I care about: I left some Roundup, an old (but functioning) vacuum cleaner, and a partial case of commercial toilet paper that I’d purchased during the pandemic. Hopefully the next tenant won’t mind getting rid of those things if they don’t want them. Then I went to the grocery store. It was HOT yesterday (91°F), and of course due to the street issue I was doing all of that during the hottest part of the day, so after bringing in the groceries I only took some of the house stuff out of the car yesterday. I’ll finish that today.
I might also get my car washed today; it’s filthy. Now that I’ll be parking in a garage I’ll be able to keep it looking respectable for longer between washes. If I’m gonna do it I should probably go soon, though at 9:02am it’s already 77° – on the way to 90° again. Happily, the carwash is actually 0.7 miles closer to this house than my old one (heh).
The rest of today’s plan includes hanging the LR curtains, doing laundry here for the first time, puttering around some more, and waiting for Amazon: 6 items are supposed to be delivered today, including the new downstairs chair ().
IIRC, you had a lot of trepidation about hosting an exchange student: I’m glad it worked out so well!
Hmmm, that would explain why I slowly but deliberately batted everything off the kitchen island yesterday…
I think if I’d been able to borrow an overstuffed chair I wouldn’t have ordered a couch yet, and probably would also put off doing so!
Hopefully yesterday was the worst of the pain and it starts easing a bit.
Agreed! Also, when mouth movements and sounds don’t match I find it highly distracting. And often I feel like a dubbed voice doesn’t quite “fit” the actor, which is also distracting. That said, I don’t have a lot of patience for subtitles due to my tendency to multitask while watching TV (I couldn’t get into the new season of Hijack because of all of the German) – so, I don’t watch much foreign TV. Except shows in French, like Lupin or The Agency, because that’s the language I studied and I like to play the “how much can I follow without reading the subtitles” game. I might have to check out The Thaw, though; it sounds interesting.
You really did – above the neck included!
Is it just me, or have you thinned/lightened your arm hair…?
That is so very cool (lovely voice or not)!
I feel ya. I’ll be slammed all week, too. Tuesday will be particularly bad, with back-to-back meetings from 8am until 5pm…and I’m double-booked in two timeslots.
I made my Food Lion run - there weren’t a lot of customers, but the aisles were still clogged with stock dollies and employees shopping for on-line orders. I wish they’d coordinate so those of us shopping in-store don’t have to run an obstacle course. Luckily, I didn’t need a lot, and even luckier, they had my fave yogurt, so YAY!!
When I got home, I moved the sprinkler out front, then FINALLY got all the vines that were choking the azalea near the back deck. The roots are intertwined with the azalea roots, but if I keep an eye on the stumps and keep cutting them back, maybe they’ll give up. Then I set up a sprinkler on the small bit of back garden.
For the moment, I’m making ice and thinking about what I’ll do next. I need to move more gravel and spread it on the path. And I need to dig out the boards that formed the old raised beds - I really need FCD’s help with that, but maybe if I use pick and shovel, I can make some progress. I know how I want to finish it all. All I need is time and energy and strength and a crew of strong young 'uns. Is that asking too much??
Good morning. I am very tired this morning for some reason. No clue why.
Nice. The frosting work was also well done.
Happy birthday, shoe!!!
Thank you everyone for your kind words. Yesterday was a good day. Mrs Magill visited one of my confidants yesterday for a couple of hours. It turns out her oldest son started off as “Emily”. I’d no idea.
I still need to try on the sundress to see if it fits. I probably should have done so yesterday, but they didn’t have a changing area.
Today will be a day of sloth, interrupted by yoga and maybe some chicken thigh kabobs.
There was one close to my apartment in Tennessee. I went there a couple of times but wasn’t impressed by much except the salad. The second time I went the prices were considerably higher than most drive thrus and around the prices at Carraba’s. It finally closed.
Happy birthday shoe!
Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, dogs tended to and fixing to do KP.
It was a weird night last night with dreams to match. Nelson was restless and a restless bunkmate means no one sleeps well.
