Howdy Y’all! I got all domesticated and got all the foodstuffs done this mornin’. It turned out to be a sunny day, so we did do some quality cee-mint pond time. Not for very long though cause it got soooooo hot and hyooomid! Showarage, nappage, and day drinkin’ then ensued. Now I shall go make me a sammich (OYKW has already done so) and then watch some stoopid teevee. Well, not exactly stoopid cause the Netflix thingy of FDR was good and now so is the Lincoln one.
JtC the fact that I have made it this far in life astounds me!
BooFae that indeed was the sensible thing to do. I trust you also judgey mcjudged her in your haid. Sounds like quite a Pride Day there!
Mollie have fun at Pride Day! Glad you found sump’n purty to wear.
Oopsie sorry about the couch delivery delay. However, the new chair and footstool look snazzy!
Frumious Izzy and y’all have memories that will last a lifetime. No doubt this year with y’all will be remembered by Izzy as one of the best years of her life. I read the post and it was wonderful.
Nuts I have had some good times with suitors straight out of the sewer. Mind you though, that was durin’ my mispent youth.
Have refereed, monitored youth refs, and exercised, so that much of the day is complete. Getting cloudy outside, but the rain isn’t due until tomorrow. Have had a midday snack of a cheesedog and pretzels so that should hold me until dinnertime. Need to start getting my donations for various organizations ready, will be taking many of the suggestions from a poll I conducted on the polling thread and a few that mean most to me. It’ll mean a ton of mail for the next year asking for more money, but I figure with myself (and most people) paying their bills on-line it’s the least I can do to keep the USPS in business. Also thinking about a July car trip up to Cedar Point via Indianapolis and then back via Akron and my old birthplace and Mammoth Cave. Should be doable and now that I’m no longer approaching 300lbs, I ought to fit in most of the rides.
But of course they would. You said it yourself–teenage boys.
Mollie, I used to have a Highlander (2003-2010) and loved it. Would have bought a Grand Highlander Hybrid last year if they had had one available.
Nut, what tools do you have/use to ‘rip out’ two large trees, or are you really named Bruce Banner?
Oopsie, not a promising start, but at least you have the HOA number for the future. Chair looks nice, hope it arrives as scheduled.
Frumious, I hope you do keep in touch with Izzy and can make a visit over there a reality someday.
FCM, one dammit thing after another…
shoe, may the cow-orkers be nice and the customers tolerable.
doggio, hope the Canes’ win comfortably so that you don’t get apoplectic…
52, My driveway is cracking some and I’m considering having it redone, but not ready to face the likely price for it yet.
And onward into the approaching evening hours. See y’all later.
Today was the annual pencil sharpening at a house on Lake of The Isles. A storm took down most of a tree on the property some years ago and rather than take the rest of it down the owners hired an artist to turn the leftover trunk into a giant #2. We didn’t attend, as there is limited parking in that area and a long walk ain’t gonna happen. A bit of fun, though.
As it happens, I was just looking at our driveway as I hiked back from the mailbox. (A hunnert feet in the heat makes it a hike, dammit!!) The house is 51 years old, and the concrete driveway was raggedy looking when we bought the house in 2004. Structurally, it still seems to be sound, but if a winning lottery ticket falls in my lap, I’d have it redone. However, on my list of things that need doing, the driveway is pretty far down the list. At least it’s not dirt & gravel like many of the neighbors here.
Tomorrow, Sandpiper is getting its Coast Guard Safety Inspection. I’m letting FCD go alone, since I’ve got things to get done here. I’ve been neglecting the back yard overhaul and it’s pretty ratty looking. Maybe I can get a bit done before it gets too hot.
Other than that, chillage is on the agenda. Plus it’s time for my evening apple-n-peanut butter snack. Yum!
I think I could outfight two crows or at least keep them off long enough to get back into the house. I wouldn’t consider breaking up ten crows fighting, 200 would have me locking all doors and closing the curtains!
I hope your idea for your pond works, I’m sure the local wildlife misses it as much as you do.
Boy, did that bring back some horrible memories! Panty hose in the middle of an Arizona summer just sucked, but I needed the extra layer due to the death by AC when I was at my desk.
When you live out in the sticks, ya gotta take your entertainment where you can find it!
Sounds like! I hope you found your weed, you deserved a toke or two after all of that.
You take dogs to rat infested barns and let them go?
Oh wow, by now I’d be seriously wondering if bitch slapping her just once would cost my job or if I could claim self-defense.
You have my sympathy!
I agree with you, I can’t imagine a bank telling anyone that. Banks end up eating a lot of money due to fraud as well, one would think they would try harder to stop it from happening.
Sounds about right.
That’s another new thing here. I’ve never heard frogs peeping before and at first thought they were just loud crickets. I haven’t seen any in our yard, but Harry has bits of curved PVC pipe sticking in the ground for frog houses and I’ve seen the lil cuties hanging out there.
I’m sorry you have lost so many beautiful visitors, sometimes the cost of progress is just heart breaking.
Its hard to say NO when someone is excited about a plant, especially when its someone who doesn’t usually care about them.
I’ve read that the new flowers are “brighter” than the older ones so maybe give them a good shot of Miracle Grow for more blooms? I dunno, this is my first one as well.
Been there, done that! I’m glad you had such a great time and got a cute dress.
How frustrating. You trusted the folks who should have known what was going on and they let you down. That’s a cute chair, I hope its comfy!
Hubs says boats are holes in the water you try to fill up with money. It sounds like he’s right. I hope this isn’t horrible costly.
Couldn’t you pivot!
We would have been in a bit of trouble with his recliner if the back didn’t come off. I have double dorrs in my room, but it wouldn’t fit through the interior doors.
From what I understand, driveways are not cheap to have ripped out and redone, even if you aren’t putting in heating. I’ve flipped houses that cost less than the work happening across the street.
Here’s hoping the weather guessers are right about the rain tomorrow. It sure doesn’t look that likely today…
So today Hubs got dressed early and left for a motorcycle ride.
That left me unsupervised, so I got in my car and headed to Huntington to carb out at Fazzoli’s. I really missed them when they left AZ and was thrilled to see one next to the good dispensary. Hubs wouldn’t be able to eat anything there though.
It was still pretty good and the waitperson kept bringing me warm bread sticks. I’m still stuffed. I stopped at every yard and church sale I saw on the way, and then finished off by going to the big consignment mall. Nothing reached out and grabbed me, so no money was spent. (Glass unicorns were big in WV about 20 years ago, if I collected I would have made a great haul.)
It was a good husbandless day, he doesn’t like yard sales or browsing antique stores, so sometimes I just need a day to indulge myself. I was planning on stopping at the patisserie on the way home for some chocolate and coffee ice cream, but they were closed. That’s worrisome, they do a lot of business on the weekends.
Next week I’m going to load up my scooter and visit the big art museum, that’s another thing he isn’t interested in. He’s kind of a fuddy-duddy these days.
Our froggies live between the poured slab patio and the ground, and in the crawl space under the front porch.
I’ve spent much of the day keeping my lovely wife company and attending to her needs. Her finger is more painful than yesterday, which makes sense but is no fun.
My day featured an unexpected little guest. I was on the sofa noticing a lot of chirping coming from outside. Then I realized some of it was too close to be outside. Got up to investigate, noticing that something odd was on the floor, moving enough to have the attention of two cats. Got the cats out of the way, and there was a small bird on the floor. We took him/her outside for release, discovered he/she was incapable of flight.
A quick Google search got us an address for a wildlife rescue in our area that was open at the time, so the tiny bird (smaller than my palm) was put in a suitable container and transported to rescue. If the receptionist was correct, and I have little reason to doubt her expertise, we had a house sparrow, probably juvenile (did have feathers so wasn’t a new hatchling). No blood in the container, but I only saw movement of one wing during transport (DH was driving). We’ve emailed a request to be kept up-to-date, but don’t know yet if their staffing and workload will permit that.
Thankfully, Kasya didn’t decide this was a great new kitten toy, and Buddy didn’t decide this was lunch.
They set up a barn sized rat maze surrounded by bales of straw. For each dog, they put a rat in the maze, taking turns, and the dog with the best time tracking the rodent advances to the next round. No rats are physically harmed.
Those are mega-cool. I know what to ask Santa for when the holidays roll around!
They were. And badgers are. Unfortunately, Ollie is a complete failure with respect to the behavioral characteristics of his breed. Don’t get me wrong: I love the little idiot! But those outsized paws have never once been used for digging. I once watched him stand right on top of a freshly-dug mole hill. Hell, I could practically smell the critter! Ollie just looked around and missed the deer that walked past, too. Not a pursuer of prey.
shoe, go Monkey!
I do. The most exotic thing I’ve seen here was (and I will swear this is what it was until the day I die) a Canada Lynx. They are not supposed to be here, but I saw the creature 3 separate times and can’t find anything else that even comes close. I guess it got lost on its way to Bend…
taters, I’m not surprised we share much of the same wildlife, with our habitats being so similar. I’ve only seen one fox here, though. Many, many deer, raccoons and cougars. I’ve seen bear a few times, but more often just their scat. I miss hearing tree frogs, too. They are not nearly as abundant as they were when we first moved here.
I hope your cleaning tasks went well!
Happy Pride, mollie! And great news about the toe!
oopsie, cute chair indeed! Looks comfy, too. Fingers crossed for a timely delivery!
Well, they weren’t paying any attention to me, but I didn’t want to do anything that would change that. I just backed slowly out of the combat zone and hid in the house until the racket finally stopped.
So do I. But I’ll consult with others first, just to make sure I don’t make the situation worse.
Your spouse-free day out sounds like it was an excellent respite for you both! Sometimes flying solo is a necessary option. Sorry about your patisserie.
Best wishes for the sparrow, nettie! That was a kind thing you did. I hope you get updates, too.
A cool, cloudy day today, high temp at 64F. There was possible thunder and lightning in the forecast, but it didn’t materialize. Living in tall trees, I never welcome lightning. Anyway, it was a perfect day for continued weeding and other property tasks. Got the patio blown off and the concrete pad in front of the workshop.
Took a couple nice walks around the place with Ollie, but no wildlife was spotted today. Only those annoying shitting birds first thing this morning. Maybe I should tape a big Bozo graphic to the outside of the glass. Actually, the last time I had birds (ravens) bothering around the spa, I tied some shiny Mylar helium balloons to the cover lift and that worked pretty well to keep them away. May try it again.
I’ve been watching a Polish series on HBO Max called The Thaw, with dialogue dubbed in. I’ve decided I prefer subtitles to dubbing. Dubbing dialogue always seems so forced. There was another Polish production on PBS called The Nordic Murders that was subtitled. I liked that one much better.
Time to go scare up some dinner. Leftover chicken? Or a burrito? Hmmm…
It’s been a long day. And Mattie with the MTTA kept saying horrible things at me, like “That top looks cute on you,” and “It really is your color.” I mean, how the hell am I supposed to withstand peer pressure like that?
Just looked at the clock and it’s 10:30pm already, so will be off to Slumberland shortly, but first the late-night final. Outside of eating and You-Tubing have done nothing very constructive since my last posting, day finally caught up with me and just didn’t have the energy for anything more. Will hopefully get a good night’s sleep, may resort to my sleeping mask as the sun seems to get up much sooner than I want to. Rain and tunder-boomers are due about 9am and will continue into the afternoon, so eating out on Sunday is still to be determined.
Cookie, the giant pencil would be worth seeing someday, a rather innovative use of something.
FCM, hope the inspection goes well, you two have put so much blood, toil, tears and sweat (not to mention money) into it.
JtC, sounds like you and Hubs have mastered the art of living together while still doing your own things…something a fair number of folks can’t or won’t do, IMHO.
Nettie, that was a good thing you and Bob-B did, they might not be able to help but you did the best anyone could have. Good on ya!
doggio, lloks like Carolina (and you) are in overtime (pity it’s not one you can get paid for…).
Mollie, it does look good on you. And I really should watch The Longest Day again, I remember going to the theater with Dad and Mom to see it when it came out and even being 9 years old it captivated me for the entire 3 hours.
And closing in on 11pm now, so off to bed I go. Catch y’all tomorrow.
The rats are in plastic tunnels like they would be in a lab or something. Those tunnels are surrounded by straw bales.
So he’s strictly a beloved pet then. He just has a different job. Sending skritches.
I popped into Fiesta to pick something up for supper this afternoon. By the time I got there, it was raining buckets. I had just gotten to the front of the deli line to order an empanada when the lights went out. I waited around for a bit before leaving, so I went to Sonic for a burger come supper time. After the rain was over, I listened to the frogs who live in Sis’ back garden.
