Hey everyone, it looks like things just keep happening
Our day was fun/interesting/frustrating. Hubs likes Dunkin’s cold brew coffee so that was our first stop and they were out. OH NO!!!
OK, there’s an acceptable coffee shop halfway to Charleston and that was the plan until we hit heavy traffic because someone tried to drive too fast on the twisty-turnies so no cold brew for Hubs. (Yes we can make it at home, he doesn’t want to for whatever reason and we can still afford to buy it a couple of times a week.)
We made it to Discount tires one minute before our 1045 appointment and a couple of workers came out the door and into the almost empty parking lot, greeted us, took the keys and started inspecting the tires.
The waiting room was also pretty empty (two other people) so we got seats where Hubs could watch them work. Three young men just swarmed our car and we were out the door at 1110.
I’m sure it will get busier when folks know that they are here, but it was nice to have the place to ourselves except for the pesky/friendly office workers who wanted to be sure that we knew where the water, coffee, restrooms and magazine rack were. I think they were bored.
We had been planning on going to the good Asian buffet for lunch but Hubs suggested the great Mexican place an hour away. I agreed right away and already knew what I wanted.
We stopped at my dressmaker’s house next (is she a tailor? I don’t want to offend) so she could stand me on a box and pin up the hem on my new uniform with one of those caulk puffers on a ruler like Mom used to use.
There is a language barrier in WV Mexican places, my Spanglish is pretty worthless here, but this time it was really bad. Instead of getting Churo beans, Hubs got a plate of refried beans and a cheese quesadilla and instead of shrimp with assorted veggies, I got shrimp covered with red chili enchilada sauce. I tried a bite and it was not good and sent my food back for the first time in my life.
Once they brought the menus back and looked at what we were pointing at, they understood and we got the food we wanted, plus they comped my second margarita for the wait.
TC friend has started collecting milk glass so after we ate, we went across the street to the big consignment mall hoping to find a vase. I saw it as soon as we walked in, grabbed it and took it to the counter. “That was fast!” said the clerk at the counter and I honestly said that I had come in looking for that specific vase. The seller who happened to be there was amazed because people don’t usually want milk glass and had just brought it in to fill the shelf two days ago.
This is Fenton glass and was made in Williamsburg, West Virginia between 1890 and 1970. I’m going to date it at between 1950 and 1970 because I’m becoming a bit of an expert on decorative glass and can feel the oval stamp with numbers on the base. If I could SEE the white on white numbers I would have more clues.
You can survive computer issues if there is enough coffee.
I LOVE tomatillos, they go in everything! When you have made enough salsa, you can move on to green chilis.
I do recognize that look.
I’ve used eyeliner pencils and they were great for being able to shape the color. I stopped using make-up a while back so haven’t seen the sticks.
I often get jealous about all of the fun make-up and hair dye folks use nowadays.
Hi Nellie, I’m glad to hear from you again and are happy that you can bend again.
I would type more but i have to go out and yell at Hubs. He’s starting the mower AGAIN!!! Damnit!!!
