Melted Ice-An off(hockey) Season MMP

125 days till season start, 145 days til the first home game at the RBC. Anybody got suggestions on how to keep my self occupied till then?

Heh…maybe some dog training?

First?

There are pucks that you can shoot on cement. They are lighter plastic.

I like the idea. : goes five hole on the dumpster :

I don’t watch sports, so here’s the first hijack.

Had an awesome day today. Went to lunch with Rick. We cruised down Reseda until we saw a good place to eat. Chinese food. YUM. And I may go back next time my parents’ and I want Chinese because we haven’t been able to find a good one in town.

Then we went to Bevmo and I spent money I shouldn’t’ve. Then I responsible for a bit and picked up my room, brushed one of the cats, hand-washed my new ties, and applied for some jobs on Craigslist. Then I goofed off and made a logo for my personal site and did a comic review. I’m doing snarky, goofy reviews of Batman comics in order, along with making icons / avatars from them. It’s quite enjoyable and I find them amusing at least.

Don’t look at me, I’m trying to isolate myself from the World Cup… there’s two of us in the team who don’t like sports; well, Rafa likes sports, but not watching them. This morning, everybody else’s greeting was “did you see the match?” No, I didn’t, and what happened to “hi guys”?

Succint OP, Doggio! Apparently it’s only 47 days until the new football season here. That’s 47 days of celebrating the lack of football, as far as I’m concerned.

Nava, we have the same problem today, everyone’s banging on about yesterday’s game but I was totally disinterested. I spent my Sunday afternoon dropping ‘im indoors at the station to travel back to Belgium and then went home to tackle the 5’ high grass in the garden. I managed to get about a quarter of the grass cut down but now the recycling bin is full so I can’t do any more until later this week when it’s been emptied.

Kai - great to hear you’re having such a good time on your trip!

I have ironing to do when I get home tonight, then I need to cook something with the chicken I took out of the freezer this morning. And the plants need watering. I’m making the most of the weeknights as I have several busy weekends coming up. This Saturday we’re going to the Godiva Festival which is a free music/arts festival held locally. It should be a fun day out, and we have an invitation to a friends’ wedding anniversary party in the evening but I don’t know if we’ll make it or not.

Oh well, back to irk, I suppose…

doggio: develop and interest in soccer or baseball?

Awake. Cleaning stuff up and putting away laundry.

Happy Monday, all!

I grew up surrounded by hockey. The house next door to me was often rented out by the Buffalo Sabres for new players. Bob Sauve and Dale McCourt once lived next door. I babysat for Dale McCourt’s kids and he used to play street hockey with the kids in the neighborhood. Tony McKegney lived a few houses down, had a hot tub and drove a Porche. We thought he was fascinating, but kept to himself mostly.

My dad would listen to games on a portable radio with headphones. He would get so worked up I was worried he’s get sick! I went to one game at the Aud and it was a blast!

Everyone in my hometown either did hockey or figure skating, but we all skated. Mostly it was boys= hockey, girls= figure skating, but not always. As long as you were on skates, it was cool. We skated at the rec center, lessons in the morning, free skate in the afternoon. Any day school was out. Everyone could do a hockey stop. We were deep in the heart of typical suburbia, but in the dead of winter we looked like rural kids, skating on ponds, streams and homemade rinks.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. It’s Monday.

I don’t know much about hockey except it involves sticks and ice. Bein’ as I did not grow up where stuff like ponds and lakes freeze over, I never even saw a hockey game until I was well into my adultery. It was kinda interestin’ but I still don’t understand a whole lot about it.

doggio maybe Nellie, Gordie and you could take up professional yodelin’. It’d be a nice family activity.

I grew up avoiding all sports. I’m aware that the World Cup is happening, but have been more interested in the total lockdown of my city for the G20. Pus for some reason the protestors have decided it’s a swell idea to burn police cars.

There were police at my east end, WASP, boring subway station! In case of what? Surly teenagers turned terrorist?

Learn to knit. There are several mumpers who’d love to teach you.

Is that a euphemism?

Up, caffeinated, off to irk.

soapy, the one player the Canes just drafted did figure skating before switching to hockey.

swampy, Gordie already yodels at passers by, I try not to encourage the boy.

Nope, it can also involve sticks and grass or sticks and concrete.

DogBut, you have it worse than VWife. Between NFL and NASCAR, she only has to deal with about a 3 week dry season in February.

Blurf. Brekkied and caffeinated.

I thought my mower was acting funny before I quit yesterday because of the heat. I put new blades on before I started, and at the end, my mow path was suddenly quite narrow. Later, walking the dog, I found out why: one blade and the mounting nut had fallen off, and were laying in the yahd. :smack:

Blurfs … although I am well caffeinated now. And also sugared, which I should not be!

Glad you had a good time in CA, kai and yay for taking it slowly.

Not being a hockey person, doggio, I gots nothing for ya to fixate on till hockey season again. You could take Gordie down to a local ice rink, though, and watch him skate around … although I doubt he would skate like Snoopy!

Happy Monday all!

Hockey? What’s that…? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ah, yes… as long as it involves sticks. “I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out”

Not that the same cannot be said for The Great Game… Leading me right into the fact that I, OTOH, am in [del]Hog[/del] [del]Football[/del] Soccer Heaven right now… Or possibly, given the abysmal refereeing, Soccer Hell  (I saw Tevez’ offside in Argentina’s first goal, in real time, from the lousy vantage of the regular mid-field television camera… And don’t even get me started on Lampard’s goal against Germany! And that’s just yesterday…[noparse])[/noparse]

Also, too bad about the US, but they played horribly against Ghana :frowning:

Yay for finally enjoying life, Kai!

Blrf. Lst my vwls…

I have a hard time following the puck. The fights are fun to watch though.

Mr. Anachi spent the weekend getting the ranch in hurricane preparedness order. Why no, it had nothing to do with the power outagle last week…why do you ask??? Soooo, the generator, window air conditioners, battery TV, and assorted lights are all working fine. We will put together some food supplies and water, extra gas, and first aid, etc., to have on hand as well.

Very, very HAWT in Flawduh over the weekend.
