Ditto. Two inquiring minds.
And once again, the staff shows that they Still Don’t Get It.

No. Way.
Riiiight. Even if that were true (it’s not; “any one of us” is not an admin and would therefore have no knowledge of the alleged accusations were it not for TubaDiva’s “mistake”), “any one of us” would probably have been banned for all this.
Sorry, Lynn, I’ve no “new points” to discuss.
Me either. I’ve got to think on this.
I don’t recall ever seeing that particular rationale used for closing a thread. So, we should just STFU then? Shh! If it’s not mentioned it’s like it never happened. ::sweep, sweep, sweep::
My feelings on the whole matter? Absolute disgust. Tuba’s back with her Administrator title still appended. No real apology. People fawning all over her for actions that would have gotten any one else banned. She broke the only written rule and was grounded for a month. Others have been let go for much less. Which leads to…
New point, just for Lynn —> The much vaunted new ironclad rules concerning privacy aren’t even in place. They’re still in review. And what might those be? Why, the new rules that are supposed to prevent any spilling of the guts by the staff. The new rules that are now so very, very important, and thanks so much for pointing out just how badly we need them, TubaDiva. The new rules that now have to be massaged by the attorneys and formalized due to TD’s actions. The least you could have done was kept her on time out until that was finished. You know, the simpler you make these things the easier they are to enforce. Here, let me help you.
“Message Board staff will not disseminate board related matters on any venue other than the SDMB. Discussion by email between staff members will not constitute public dissemination.
Staff will not post any personal information off the SDMB about another member, unless that member has given consent.
Staff will not post any personal information on the SDMB about another member, unless that member has given consent or previously posted the same information.
Concerns regarding possible criminal activity will be directed to legal counsel or, if immediate action is required, the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
Failure to abide by these rules will result in immediate termination.”
You all may want to consider changing the SD motto.
I feel fine, thanks. Maybe a trace of a headache. I ought to be in bed, and I’ll go to sleep after I rewatch Sunday’s Arrested Development. How do you feel?
Oh, I get it, I’m supposed to post my outrage about Tuba. Sorry, haven’t got any.
This is the part that bothers me most. It wasn’t just a ‘heat of the moment’ action, done without thinking. She knew exactly what she was doing, and made a deliberate decision to violate a poster’s privacy.
Put me down as one who thinks she should be removed from admin duties at the very least, and preferably banned.
Not outraged, just very disappointed.
I don’t agree with what Tuba did, but the reason I won’t be back is not because of that, but because of posts like Lynn’s.
Privacy - that’s nothing. This was about setting somebody up to get hurt.
Hopefully she was right about who he was and what he did.
Welcome back Tuba!
How do I feel? I’m…
Getting tired of threads like these… no matter how you attempt to frame the issue, it all comes down to the same arguments and the same accusations, and nothing’s going to change.
Glad to see at least the veneer of apology and contrition, although the substance is not terribly convincing.
Understanding that it was a boundary situation that could cause many people to lose their rationality, but…
Taking this outcome as a sign that double standards between mods and members exist, and said duplicity is tacitly accepted by SDMB management.
But since it’s just a message board and I don’t have much stake in it, I’ll just quietly live with the extremely minor injury to my sense of “how things ought to be” and continue to use the board without making it a major part of my life.
It really is a shame though… I came here thinking this was one of the unusual places on the internet where integrity and principle prevail, and this is sort of a letdown. This seems to be an endemic problem to volunteer-supported organizations… it’s hard to get free help, so there’s very little leverage to control staff behavior. Can’t tell you how many volunteer groups I’ve walked away from for exactly that reason.
From what I understand, there are aspects of administering this message board that nobody except TubaDiva knows how to do. I think that the administrators realized that if they did the right thing, there would be a lot more work for them to do. So they did the wrong thing.
“T” is for TUBADIVA and “T” rhymes with…“T” which stands for TROUBLE.
“Won’t someone please think of the children!”.
“TUBADIVA is evil incarnate and should be stricken from the face of the planet”.
Let’s see, have I missed anything…oh yeah:
IT’S JUST A FREAKING INTERNET MESSAGEBOARD!!, FOR THE LOVE OF OG PLEASE DON’T LET IT RUN YOUR LIFE.
IF YOU ARE STAYING, STAY.
IF YOU ARE LEAVING, BUH-BYE.
Lynn,
Please lock this train wreck!!!
Unclviny
Seconded.
Who the fuck are YOU? Why should he automatically answer to you, asshole? I like this place, I really do, but this club mentality that crops up from time to time makes me want to puke my fucking guts out. That combined with Lynn’s threats to close this thread really make me regret signing up. Not that you give a shit since my post count is only a fraction of yours.
I am not outraged at TD at all. It is a mistake that plenty of people could have made if they were in the same position. What does piss me off is the way this was handled by the SDMB adims. I can’t believe that previous record counts for so much. How many posts do I need to have? How many hours do I need to volunteer to be exempt from the SDMB’s policies?
You’re not.
Three.
Sad, isn’t it?
And she still appears to believe she did the right thing, and only regrets that she got caught and punished. I don’t think she’s said a damn thing that indicates she’s aware of just how wrong what she did was.
Now it seems like the rest of the administration wants everybody to forget about this as quickly as possible. Is that maybe so the next time TubaDiva does something that’s deliberately nasty and unacceptable, they can tell us all it was ‘just once’ and she’s done so many good things for such a long time?
You don’t like being told to shut up and forget about it so it can all be swept under the rug? For shame!
Lock it up, throw away the key, and forget all about it. Hey maybe they can disappear the thread too, so that we can just remove all trace that the administration’s not the most ethical, wonderful, selfless people on the planet.
I think there is new business here being discussed. Like the complete lack of understanding by TubaDiva of the actual wrongness of her actions, specifically because she made out in ATMB like she got slapped for being the martyr who did the right thing.
Just posting to put on the record a vote of confidence in TubaDiva. She has long had my respect and my trust, and that has not faltered in any way after this incident. Not for a nanosecond. There should be more like her.
Or perhaps it shows that they Just Don’t Agree With You. An unpardonable sin, to be sure.
Well, thank God we live in a country where access to justice is primarily dictated by money.
