TubaDiva is back as an admin after less than 30 days - how do YOU feel?

Tuba was gone? Did I miss something important?

Get over it Blue Ruin. She fucked up. She’s only human. People fuck up all the time. She was suspended, and her suspension is over. Personally, I’m glad she’s back, she was always very helpful to me with any questions about the board that I may have had.

Thankfully, voting isn’t allowed, or she would be replaced by Polycarp. Not that theres anything wrong with that!

Me neither. I have the SDMB equivalent of “senioritis” – I’m outta here when my subscription runs out. I quit caring last semester.

Not proof, inductive logic, from observing the eventual results.

It now appears that the allegations were accurate. It looks like TD had sufficient information before she started this. “What if” speculation is moot at this point.

[Tuvok] Your logic is flawed [/Tuvok]

We know what the administration did. But, we don’t know why. They may have acted based soley on whether her allegations had merit. They may have acted based soley on a financial cost/benefit analysis.
BTW- Tubadiva could have contacted the proper authorities and taken protective action behind the scenes. Instead, she posted twice on LiveJournal. There she revealed private information saying “There’s no privacy policy here.”

And in my hypothetical situation? If they were true, and the offender decided to take action?

Good god, what the fuck is your problem? I am tired of being forced to defend someone I find morally repugnant, simply because I don’t believe that the ends justify the means?

I don’t know why you guys are complaining, the people in charge don’t care.

I feel your pain. Really, I do. Some members of this board have put me in the position of defending GWB on a number of occasions, and he’s one of my least favorite presidents.

Goes with the territory I guess. In this case I do think the end justified the means. You dont? 'S ok with me. Peace, Sistuh.

I choose to believe they acted for the right reasons. YMMV.

Well I wasn’t here for most of this but from what I am reading, and if i was her. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere where that many people disliked me and didn’t want me.

That is exactly why we are complaining.

Well, I didn’t even know about this situation until I read this thread, so you can count my opinion as pretty much unbiased. It seems to me that TubaDiva has Tenure, if I may borrow the term from academic circles. People with tenure are notoriously difficult to fire – hell, that’s even kind of the point. Sort of like, “You’ve been here so long and you’ve done such a good job, we’re going to remove the Sword of Damocles that’s been hanging over your head, and make it so that we can’t fire you on a whim.”

But even tenured university faculty members are not above the law; there’s a line that, if crossed, results in termination. I think reasonable people can disagree as to whether Tuba crossed such a line in the current situation. But if you’re a Tuba Apologist (not that there’s anything wrong with that), I want you to do a little thought-experiment and answer the following question:

What is the least heinous thing that Tuba can do that, in your opinion, would warrant a termination of Administrator status? I mean, sure, if she stole everyone’s credit card numbers, that’d be just cause for banning in anyone’s opinion. Same if she deleted everything from the Board. But I want to know your “line in the sand” that cannot be crossed, and then the action that juuuuuuust crosses that line. Compare it to what went down in the current situation. Is one egregiously worse than the other?

For me, the invasion of privacy and especially the deliberate tap-dancing around Board rules (i.e., the "I had to do it in LiveJournal because I can’t do it on the Boards) do indeed cross that line. If they don’t for you – well, like I said, that’s fine. But at least give the situation a moment’s thought instead of saying, “Tuba friend me good! She stay-stay!”

:: annoying effete grammar nitpick ::
It should properly be either “less than 30 days’ time” or “fewer than 30 days”. “Less” is used with nouns when they are used uncountably, “fewer” when they are used countably.
:: end of annoying, but incredibly enjoyable, twee grammar nitpick ::

  1. I agree with everyone that what Stage Manager has done is despicable, and he should be prevented from repeating it.

  2. Eutychus lost his mod position merely for mentioning on his own LJ a matter of much less importance to the SDMB itself that Ed had ordered him not to discuss. I thought this was harsh, but would be fair only if it was enforced equally in all future circumstances.

  3. I have no problem with TubaDiva’s performance as an admin up to this point. What I do object to is her method of handling the current matter, flagrantly circumventing SDMB policy as she herself proudly announced, with potential legal ramifications for the SDMB. For this she is only suspended for 30 days. As others have said elsewhere, a mistake like this in a business setting would be dealt with by the loss of her position regardless of her previous record.

This really, really stinks.

Unless people start making new points and arguments fairly quickly, I’m going to close this thread down soon. We’ve gone over and over this issue, and I don’t think that people’s minds are going to change, one way or the other.

For the Straight Dope

I agree with roger thornhill

Really? Is that how it works with the Bush threads? Or the religion threads? Should one of those missing threads have been bumped instead?

I don’t think the pit is for a mind changing experience. It’s to bitch, complain, spleen vent, etc and there still seems to be some animosity about this issue.

I think this bears repeating “We’ve gone over and over this issue, and I don’t think that people’s minds are going to change, one way or the other.”

You could apply that to the vast majority of GD threads. None have ever been closed for that reason. I doubt strongly I’m the only one reading your post as ‘Quiet down so we can dump this in the memory hole’.

Hey Lynn, I have a question. Despite your position as an admin, am I able to say “fuck you” in the pit?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Clearly you’ve not encountered the modal ontological argument around here, now have you.
