The ‘I’m back’ thread that she opened when she returned didn’t sound like she was ‘horrified’. She sounded pretty smug to me.
Well, Guinastasia, I suppose I may have crossed that line (of imputing to you an unseemly sympathy for a child molester), and for that I apologize.
I do not see this incident as the edge of a slippery slope, if that is your concern. I see absolutely no reason to believe TubaDiva would react as she did except under the exact circumstances presented: a registered child molester trolling for victims on the SDMB. And under the circumstances presented, I don’t think she did anything wrong. Your mileage obviously varies. (Hell, Ed’s mileage varies on this point.)
You have indicated that you’ve had disagreements with TD in the past (the substance of which I have no knowledge). I suspect that is at least part of the reason that TubaDiva’s perceived transgression this time around caused you to react so strongly.

No, not personally, if that’s the impression I gave, I appologize. I have had some problems with some of her decisions in the past.

IMO, justice was done.
Remember that justice and rules / laws have nothing in common. Ed Z did good and I’m Glad TD is back.

If all the folks posting in this thread would just practice what they are preaching in all their future posts without exception, then the SDMB would be so levitated as to make us all need parachutes…

Ed, isn’t there some way this issue could be put to bed? TubaDiva made a mistake. She has shown much regret. The decision has been made to return her to her duties, and that decision appears to be (and IMO, should be) final.
While I admire the Dope’s willingness to let people speak their minds on sensitive issues like this, it appears to me that the longer this goes on the more complex and difficult the situation becomes…sort of like continuing to pick at a sore. It only get more and more inflamed and the period of time until it heals is increased with each new inflammation.
So, again, if there is some way for the Dope to adopt the posture that the decision has been made, it’s final, and it’s time for us all to move on and put the issue behind us, I would certainly support it.
And thank you for taking the time to interact with us here personally and for the information and insight you have provided us. The issue is much clearer – in my mind, at least – as a result.
I get exactly the opposite impression – this thread itself has facilitated a kind of “healing” for lots of folks (myself included). The vitriol that was so manifest for the first few pages of this thread has pretty much vanished (Blue Ruin & Friends contributions excepted).
Also, the pace of posts to this thread has slowed down considerably.
bordelond, you may well be right. I’ve been avoiding this thread, as I have the entire issue for that matter. I only came here as a result of Blue Ruin’s IMHO thread, and I confess I may have jumped to some erroneous conclusions based on the number of views and posts this thread has generated. In fact, now that I think about it almost all the posts I saw during the Blue Ruin flame-out were either pro Tuba or anti-him.
So, Ed, please take my words with their proper grain of salt. I’m sure you know which is the proper way to go. I just wanted to say that as far as I’m concerned, I’m more than ready to see the issue die.

I came to these boards and this site approx. 2 mos. ago completely by accident. I have bumped into message boards at other times but usually avoided them. Preconcieved notions and such. For reasons unknown to me, I decided to have a look at this one. I lurked and I read and ever so slowly I became hooked. I picked up bits and pieces of the situation Tuba was involved in and tried to watch it closely.And then along came he who will not be mentioned!
I also followed this closely and about right in the middle of it, I decided to join.
It has been a most enlightening experience. With notable exceptions you have all made yourselves proud. To the veterans on this board this exercise may have been another day at the office. To me it has been a revelation.
I am more than ever, glad I decided to join, I am proud to one of your number!
There will be time in the future to express my feelings to individuals and I will do that.
