Just my two cents, but it’s often best to ask questions first, then come out swinging. Of course sometimes you can grok something strongly enough to go on it… but the word ‘whooshed’ exists for a reason.
Personally I try (and often fail) at being light/playful/debatey, and if I take a hit I try to land on my feet and come out swinging. Just a thought.
When you double post, you are only required to post “damn” once. There is no need to keep everything in duplicate.

Ok, I think I got it. But in all seriousness, I was impressed the way those folks circled the wagons to defend their fellow doper in the face of the specious accusations being made. Sort of gives one hope that if you’re not a total asshole, people will come to your defense.

Well, I hope that the hamster’s parents aren’t standing by insisting that Tom keeps him on life support for the next 15 years - think what that’ll do to the price of membership.
For the right price I’m sure you could find a vet. who’d write them an opinion that the hamster has the potential to recover from his PVS, though.

If you hope to close the door on a message board discussion, using words like “specious” to describe the content of some of the previous posts made is probably not the best way to go about it.
It would appear that we can learn more then a lesson at SDMB but for now stay on the wheel.
You’re very likely right. Things have been so amiable of late and I have been getting some good advice from everyone, I guess I forgot where I was for a second. I certainly don’t want to revisit the past!

You’re right. The Diva Fan Club are harshly put upon for it to be implied, nay, stated that they don’t want pedophiles on the board… especially with all the people coming out of the woodwork telling us their personal stories of weekend business trips to Thailand and how they see nothing wrong with a little child rape now and again. What, with the groundswell of heartfelt personal support for StageManager and all that he stands for, they truly are fighting a thankless uphill battle. :dubious:

That’s the bit that gets me. She’s horrified that she might have put the board in jeopardy, but what about the fact that she violated the privacy of two members in one fell swoop?
Right, I know, one of those people doesn’t matter because he’s an RSO and as such, has no right to privacy. Ok, say I go along with that one - what about the privacy of the minor, the alleged victim? By posting what she did, and how she did, she not only violated their privacy, but potentionally put him/her at FURTHER risk by letting the RSO know that he’d been ratted on.
The fact that she’s actually a paid employee of the boards, and not a mere volunteer should make her more accountable, not less. But, it’s apparent that I’m in a very very small minority here. And that’s ok too…
Or it gives one hope that you merely have to frame the issue in terms of it being you v. someone who is a bigger asshole. If anyone tries to bring up a rational discussion of the issues raise by the actual offense committed, you just shout them down for supporting the less sympathetic character.
It works very well. It can be very impressive. That doesn’t mean it’s a Good Thing.
I don’t think it’s that small of a minority, it’s just that a lot of us have either ran out of things to say, ran out of energy, or finally realized that nothing will change Ed’s mind.
I fall into all three. Sure there are other points I could make, but I’ve run out of steam since it seems this thread is on a road to nowhere. And as I likely won’t be re-subscribing next month for a variety of reasons, I just don’t give a damn anymore.
