TubaDiva is back as an admin after less than 30 days - how do YOU feel?

Ok, now I’m really goimg to bed!

1010001…or whatever , You remain totally incomprehensible to me! You lost. Find a corner, lick your wound and work on your next dose ov venom.

Mauvaise ,Regarding your “very, very small minority” :A husband and wife are watching their son march by in his ROTC parade. Wife looks at husband and says, " look dear, all those boys marching and Johnny is the only one in step"

G’night All

This is all in the past now.

Why is this thread still open?

To add salt to the wounds?

Just because something occurred in the past doesn’t invalidate its continued discussion.

Don’t like it, don’t read it.

FTR: despite a menagerie that includes multiple specimens of 15 species across numerous genera, families, orders, classes, and even two phyla, THERE ARE NO HAMSTERS in the tomndebb household. (And Tom, himself, has no critters, just a wife who loves critters.)

Will this do?

What, not even a Congresscritter?

What are you having trouble understanding? I’ll try to explain it better.

It’s not necessary to view all disagreement as an adversarial process in which there must be a winner and a loser. You can instead view it as a process where people seek to understand each other. Everyone can win in those situations, even if they still disagree at the end.

It’s unfortunate that you’ve chosen to lose… I’d like for you to win, too.

I still can’t see what meaningful purpose you have in continuing this except either to bait me or to keep dragging this issue out even further. I realize I did so inadvertently and I apoligized. However, One Last Time,

I admire people who are willing to go to the wall for a friend. Many people on this board saw a friend being attacked by ( oops, careful here, I’ll try to tone it down) a muck-raking attention whore and came to her rescue. And there you have it my friend. No more complicated than that! I came, I saw, I posted. Do with that what you will, that is my nefarious reasoning process.

Tuba did something wrong in many peoples eyes. Not mine. If you had three children and eight grand children you might see my POV better. Maybe not.

Ed handled the situation in great form. IMHO There are very, very few hard and fast rules in life. IRL i worked under a very strict set of rules, Mental Health Act, College of Nurses of Ont,Local health rules, etc… In many instances they were used as guidelines because no set of rules can cover every situation. At some point common sense and compassion rears its ugly head and you just do what you think is right in that situation. There is a concept called “situational ethics” and while it should not solely be your guiding principle, there are times when it is the only process that covers the situation you find yourself in at the time. I believe, and Ed can correct me, that this was the process used here. An excellent mamagement tool. I have a strong distrust of “by the book” people. Most often the book saves them from actually doing some rational thinking on their own.

Unless you track me down, come over here and break every window in my house, this is my LAST response to this thread. Honestly, its been nice talking to you.

                                 :p

I still think that Ed failed to apply the ethics that systems administrators are supposed to adhere to in this case. He did the wrong thing because he doesn’t want to go to the effort of either dealing with some of the work himself or finding someone else who will do it, because having been an administrator of a web forum I’m well aware that the technical side of it is not that difficult.

I also think that now that so many statements have been made that Tuba is indispensable because she’s the only one who does certain things, she’ll just get more heavy-handed, snarky and rogue-ish. I find it problematic that Ed said that she ‘mostly’ didn’t argue and that he only says anything about her being contrite after many capital letters.

She was far from humble before when she was divulging personal information or bitchily scolding someone for fucking up her resume by posting ‘TMI’, but now it’s clear she has a stake more than loving this place in remaining an Admin: she’s getting some kind of money out of it. She’s not the unpaid saint she’s been made out to be, nor has Ed given me any reason to think her future behavior will be any better or that his decision was based on anything further than his lack of desire to actually deal with this forum.

I hear what you’re saying, and think the nastiness in this thread was way over the top. But just to give you another perspective, I felt that I behaved in a respectful manner through the majority of the thread, committing only the following offenses:
-I correctly smelled a rat in the OP, and spoke my concern;
-I defended a nuanced viewpoint (that policy may have been violated, but that I did not think Tuba behaved unethically); and
-Importantly, I lost my temper at a few people who threw egregious insults at me for the first two points. I should not have done this.

For these offenses, I got called an elitist, an asshole, really fucking thick, a sycophant, and a bevy of other lovely phrases by people whom I otherwise respect. Last night I got hatemail from some asshole, suggesting that my participation in this thread has made me an object of contempt over at LJ. (I’ve just made my email address private in order to avoid this in the future).

It may have seemed to you that you were being shouted down; it seemed to me as if, because I was unwilling to go along with the attack on Tuba, I was becoming the subject of the attack myself. It’s not a pleasant sensation.

And FWIW, I’ve specifically said that this isn’t a matter of the lesser of two evils; if some folks think that Tuba was merely not as big an asshole in this case as someone else, those people disagree with me on that point. If I believed that, I’d join you in condemning her actions, as I find nothing exculpatory in being the smaller jerk.

Daniel

I can’t stand it.

Rather than endure another 17 pages of posts in which everyone restates well-known views ad nauseam, I’m closing this thread.

This is well said. gommsn, when a bitter argument is dying down and people are making up, please exercise some elementary common sense and don’t stir things up again with proclamations of victory (“you lost”) and other such foolishness. We recognize that some remain unhappy but hope they will continue to participate on the SDMB just the same. This would be a dull place if everyone always agreed.
