Because, she threw the whole circumstances of the investigation out into the open, instead of waiting until it was resolved to reveal it, potentially exposing the victim, and making Stage Manager look like the victim of a POSSIBLE witch hunt.
(Fuck, hit “post” too soon) Maybe someone remembers more of the details, but IIRC, didn’t she also post some of his personal information as well?
TubaDiva grossly overstepped her bounds by releasing the personal information of a member. Regardless of his intent, she shat on his right to privacy. How would you like it if your information was posted because the administration suspected you (however erraneously) of being a pedophile?
Details, what did she do? This sounds like regurgitate shit from that other board and LJ. Where did she actually do what you just posted? You look like a politician using talking points instead of real ideas and facts.
Not to rehash a long dead issue, but if I remember correctly, the only ones making StageManager to be a victim of a witch hunt were the aforementioned “hand wringers”…
IMHO TubaDiva was on the mark with her actions.
Where and how? Was it Straight Dope info or info from someplace else? Where did she post it?
Ed Zotti - Concerning the recent unpleasantness involving TubaDiva (short version)
That there is yer basics, What Exit?
The Powers That Be think a lot of things that I don’t agree with.
Leaving aside the Stage Manager issue, which we discussed for what, about 20 pages then? I agree with the OP here - that was not cool of Tuba. Rico and placebo made an arrangement,** placebo** did as requested and also put links in to that agreement, Tuba neglected to read the whole story, acted precipitously, and was snotty to boot. A separate issue is her public spanking of Rico - I think the rule of praise given publicly, censure given privately should have been in effect there. There was no reason I can see for her to do that pubicly. Plus, who the hell says “not” these days? That’s so 90’s.
She worked out his real name from his registered email address and used that information locate his entry in a state sex offender registry and illegally posted his personal information garnered from that.
Oh, HELL no. Lynn’s even more of a bitch.
I must have missed this episode. Que?
Well crap, I guess we are not suppose to talk in details about this. I did not know that. Thanks for the link, I have never had the details before.
Q.E.D., it does not appear she did anything illegal. I am not sure about your use of the word. However, I do see the overall complaint now as legit even if it was done for the right reason. I guess I better let this drop.
Sorry, I had thought this was another legendary example of the mod’s “blowing off membership privacy”…
In this thread http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=266258 post 85, Lynn reveals Aldebaran’s location by IP check. (Yes i know an IP check doesnt necessarily reveal a person’s true location.) There was much hullabaloo about it at the time though, if I remember correctly.
Again, much ado about nothin’, but if we are gonna condemn one mod for blowing off privacy rules, we can’t hold another as a shining example of truth and light when, in fact, she had done the same thing.
That was a bit before I started lurking.
I’m sure IP checks can be very misleading. My university has a virtual private network set up between the Qatar branch and the US campus, so when I surf the internet from work I have (I am told) a US IP address. I don’t usually bother to log into the VPN from home, so my posts from home would have an IP address in Qatar. But I seldom post from home, so most of my posts would appear to originate from the US. They would all have a US IP address if I consistently used the VPN.
I don’t disagree that IP checks are (or can be) misleading. That, however, was overlooked in the outraged, torch lighting, shitstorm that ensued.
Due to the length of time involved, I had forgotten about Ed’s note regarding this. This was some time ago and I think it’s still right that this does not need to be rehashed or discussed further from this point out.
Just saw fluiddriud’s note and realized that the post was inappropriate.
Why doesn’t … oh, Ed work on fixing the problems with the board? Why doesn’t he read the documentation, play with the settings of the admin control panel, and visit the vBulletin.com message board to learn a bit about proper server configuration, so he can step in and fix HIS site? He can restore a wreck of a house, but he can’t tweak a few server configuration files?
Then again, to say more about how it’s not really that hard to configure and optimize a message board would be junior-admining, and Tuba already gave me a warning for that.
Taking his personal information and posting a link to his sex offender status on the website for anyone and everyone to see is considered harassment by the state of California. Please see the last paragraph of the following link:
http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/disclaimer.aspx?lang=ENGLISH
There have been websites where information has been posted about specific offenders with their personal information and they have been removed by law. Tuba deleted the post she made on LJ with his info so it couldn’t be referred back to.
And why is it this shouldn’t be referred to? If what she did was okay in their eyes, why all the hush-hush?
MY point there was that at least Lynn isn’t the smug, hateful bitch that Tuba is,-however, I had forgotten the Aldebaran instance, so no, she isn’t deserving either.
I’m sorry to have brought the whole thing up again-my point is that this current incident isn’t Tuba’s worst, and why she’s still in charge is a mystery to me. Fact is, if she acted like this in any office setting, or business setting, she’d be long gone-it’s no way to treat customers, patrons, or what have you.
I work in a newsroom.
When my boss emails me, she’s always nice and always friendly. When we’re in the bullpen sliding toward a deadline, she’s quite a bit more terse. In other words, she says what’s wrong with my shit in front of everyone else, just as she does for my colleagues.
TubaDiva is unfailingly cordial, appropriate and jocular in her emails. In front of the Screaming Chillins however, she has a right to push buttons. My opinion.
Grow up you sack of bitches. Frank, you’re excepted.
I agree, but the customer isn’t always right, and this isn’t retail where workers are always expected to put on a happy face even when facing irate or misbehaving customers. That being said, it seems like a lot of people are complaining about Tuba being rude. My experiences are mixed, but it seems like a lot of people are only seeing the grumpy side of her.
