He doesn’t have any trade secrets. I doubt that’s standard for on air talent. We’ve all seen plenty of broadcast talent in a new job with in days or weeks. He was probably fired for cause anyway.
Tucker? I hardly knew her!
Keith Olbermann, who used to work for Fox and was fired under similar circumstances, says that the standard Fox contract will pay Tucker his remaining salary. However, any money that he makes during his non-compete phase… even if it’s non-media related… will be deducted from the payouts.
The reporting I’ve see indicates that he signed his current contract in 2021, and that Fox WILL pay out the remainder of the contract. I’ve not found anything that tells me when his current contract is up and how much paying out the remainder will cost Fox.
Hmmm, so he may very well have an NDA and non-compete clause as part of his contract that goes into affect under this set of circumstances. This could limit him on where he could go to work and what he can say publicly about the terms of his separtion.
The fact that the show runner, Justin Wells, got the ax at the same time makes me lean this way also. Never heard of him before today, but considering how homophobic Carlson is, the fact that this guy is gay is a bit of a surprise. The things people do for money…
I think the character that Tucker played on Fox was homophobic. And loved Trump.
In real life, he’s probably different.
He was playing a role for 10 million dollars/year plus.
I strongly suspect that if Tucker accepts such a payout, it makes it pretty much impossible for him to sue Fox, as has been rumoured when he supposedly hired high-priced lawyer Bryan Freedman, because it probably comes with an explicit condition of holding Fox harmless from any liability for this “mutually agreed” parting of ways.
FWIW Fox has decided to not pay Carlson his severance since they fired him “with cause.”
Firing up the popcorn machine, oh yeah!
If that reporting is correct I wonder at the reasoning?
People at Fox (and conservatives of their stripe in general) seem a vindictive bunch. I’d think Carlson might know of some skeletons in the Fox closet he could disclose in a fit of pique. Fox may not want to see that happen.
Unless Fox has dirt on Carlson too and it’ll be a game of chicken to see who blinks first.
Much of the recent focus of the show though, seems to have been on white supremacy / hatred of brown people, and support for Russia.
These things seem to be quite heartfelt, as he goes a lot further (and even in a different direction to) others on the network.
I’d be curious to learn what the cause might be. Okay, okay. I’m aware of the recent settlement with Dominion, but Carlson wasn’t doing anything that Fox management had a problem with. So if they’re firing him for cause, I can’t imagine the cause would have anything to do with Dominion. Maybe the harassment rumors are true?
I found this:
Carlson being nailed in court documents for his repeated use of the overtly misogynist c-word was a key factor in his demise, as Fox News had rid itself of Roger Ailes and Bill O’Reilly after years of sexual-harassment complaints and could not have its biggest star undermining any supposed progress.
And this:
But sources told The Times that Carlson’s exit is related to a discrimination lawsuit filed by Abby Grossberg, the producer who was fired by the network last month. Carlson’s senior executive producer, Justin Wells, has also been terminated, according to insiders.
I saw that but I was unsure as to the reliability of it as a source. Looking at the other articles it had seemed very tabloid, and since the story is “exclusive” all other sources point to this one so there was no corroboration.
Does anyone know whether the Radar is a reliable news source?
Ergh…I posted an MSN link thinking they were somewhat reliable and I see they are re-posting the Radar story. Sorry about that. I should have noticed.
I have no idea how reliable Radar is. Looks like a tabloid.
Msnbc had a near hour long interview with grossberg at 4 pm. Very interesting.
I saw bits of it between bouts of work. I’m amazed at how many lawyers are willing to possibly throw their law license away. Telling a client to mislead a deposition can take away a license, yes?
Radar was once a magazine that wrote articles on “entertainment, fashion, politics, and human interest stories”. But it folded, and was changed into an online-only publication in 2009 as RadarOnline, which is a web site for entertainment gossip. It is about as trustworthy as Star or National Enquirer. (Funny enough, it was once run by someone who was a part-owner of both of those tabloids, no surprise.)
I would not put a lot of faith in anything they publish that isn’t corroborated elsewhere.
I’m almost certain he does. There was an article in the Times last week about how many local news anchors were screwed because their non-compete clauses made it impossible to work in the same market or anywhere close to the same market.
They definitely get signed at the beginning of employment when employers have clout.
I do think Trump wanted him gone and FOX wants Trump interviews.
