YOU CAN GET ANYTHING YOU WANT AT ALICE’S RESTAURANT
(What’s the big deal with Alice’s Restaurant, anyway?)
… and all the beads have been glued together.
Don’t be silly. Duck shoes should be grilled!
I like polkas, no matter what instrument(s) they’re played on. My favourite dance by far, though, is the waltz.
Forgot to take the duck out of the freezer, so supper will be pork chops, mash, and some sort of veg. The housemate just left for work, so it’ll be the three of us (wife, daughter, and self).
I’m sure swampy really is not that kind of girl, but you have already confessed to having been a sailor…
Howdy Y’all! We ate. We drank. We made merry. ‘Twas fun bein’ with folks as always. Now everyone is gone and the dishwasher is dishwasherin’ (is too a word!) away. Everyone was given leftovers to take home, so not a hyuuuuuuuuuuge amount of stuff left here. Enough to nosh for a couple of days and then it’ll be gone. Now we chill. I love company, both comin’ and goin’.
Hope everyone has had or is havin’ either a nice Turkey Day or nice regular ol’ Thursday. The weather is quite nice here, around eighty, and low humidity. I think perhaps we shall take a cocktail out on the back porch and enjoy.
I had an invitation to eat dinner at my next door neighbor’s, which I declined out of an abundance of caution and also because I was getting two dinners delivered. But I had planned to pop over this evening for dessert. She just texted me that we’d better not as her husband and (adult) daughter weren’t feeling well. The whole family got Covid-tested yesterday. I had dinner with them on Nov 8. No contact since. Both the husband and wife still go to work in the Outside World. The two adult kids are locked down at home all the time.
Posting covertly during a quiet moment while they prepare a plate for the neighbor.
I AM SO FULL. I ate like a fiend. And … we’re gonna have a restorative smoke & then imma eat some more. I’m going to sleep like a small dead creature tonight. So many carbs. So much salt. So much protein.
There’s cherry pie and pumpkin pie. Which should I have?
I have to report back. I took a chance with cornbread stuffing made with sausage, bread, celery, shallots, pecans and herbs: it was terrific and will be our thing going forward. The gravy, as usual, was nectar of the gods.
That was precisely my plan all along. I was just testing y’all.
You passed.
Skinny slice of each, and a to-go plate for my plate’s remnants (someone’s eyes were a lot bigger than their stomach) then home again, home again, jiggety-jig. I so badly wanna cuppa tea!
Tea is about to be assimilated, and imma chill with a round or three of Plants vs Zombies, then bedtime. If I’m awake past 8 p.m. tonight I’ll be surprised.
Happy Thanksgiving, all y’all, and may your tomorrows be heartburn free.
We each had ti martwonis whilst sittin’ on the back porch. I feel so suave and sophisticated with a martwoni in hand. The drink that comes with a snack (bleu cheese stuffed olives)! Plus chilled gin!
As I said, I had a Landjäger and a slice of cheese earlier. Sometime after that post, I had a handful of smoked almonds. Now I’ve almost finished a glass of wine. I may be durkene psoting soon.
The probe in the stuffing reached the desired temperature. The one in the meat has not yet reached 165ºF… But it’s close.
Where do you obtain yours? I flew all the way from Dallas back to Michigan with a pound of dried sausage in my carry-on because I can’t source anything satisfactory up here, but I’m sure it exists. These people are serious about their delis.
But there’s a German deli in Dallas that I know has exactly the Landjager style I like, and I really did bring a bunch back with me. Last two or three links in the fridge, as a matter of fact. sniff
I’m feeling very blessed. I’ve spent the entire day on the phone except when Zoomin’ with the chilluns–calls, texts, some from people I haven’t talked with in ages…gee, people remembered me! I haven’t started mashing potatoes yet–no time. I am, however, having a cocktail.
swampy, bleu-cheese stuffed olives are da bomb! (Yes, outdated slang. I love outdated slang. It’s only with great restraint I don’t tell you all you’re the bee’s knees or the cat’s pajamas.) When I have one in a martini (vodka), it’s the prize in the cereal box: I drink the martini to get to the olive. OK, not JUST to get to the olive. Glad you and OYKW had fun with your guests.
Mooooom, you made it through! Have a safe trip home! I suppose the next
.
nellie, I can’t speak for anyone else when it comes to afternoon dinners, but growing up, Sunday and holiday dinners tended to be ~2 PM so’s that the churchgoers could prep something, go to mass, come home to finish the dish and hop in the car for Granny’s or whoever was hosting. It wasn’t later 'cause…football. We usually tossed around some kind of ball after dinner for the kids and the cards and music instruments came out for the grown ups. For dinners on a Sunday, folks had to get up early the next morning for irk, so everyone was gone by 6:30.
The ham steak was good, the miso-ginger sweet potatoes, sauteed green beans and zucchini casserole were good accompaniments. I did stevia sweetened pumpkin pie filling in a small casserole dish instead of a pie with crust, since the filling is the best part of pumpkin pie anyway.
Nelson got some dog park time in between phone and Zoom calls, so the day was a good one. I’m getting ready to order Christmas stamps so that I can begin addressing cards next week (I tend to send a boatload of Christmas, Solstice and Chanukah cards out, so I begin early).
My belly is still full. I’ll go into irk tomorrow with the intention of getting out of there a bit early. There will be fewer people there, so I should be able to get some things done without distraction.
Dinner was served at 4pm and finished about 90 minutes later. Twas quite good. Now sitting watching a fairly inane TV program (identify the bad singer on Fox for $$$) and will head up to bed shortly to listen to some you tube sites without bothering others. The puppy bloodhound (11 month-80 lbs. puppy) still has energy but the rest of the canine crew have gone sleepy-bye. Dinner was apple pie that was melt-in-your-mouth good.
Sounds like all y’all had a good day. Happy evening to all.
Awake at 2AM, of course. My alarm is set for 4 - hoping FCD sleeps till then. Further hoping the traffic won’t be too terrible en route. (Looking at you, SC!!!)
