Turn it up to 11: RIP Jim Marshall

Jim Marshall, guitar amplifier pioneer and a member of the elite pantheon that gave us rock, has passed.

Thank you for the volume.

:frowning:

RIP Jim, and thanks for the stack.

Sad to hear this although my initial thought was the Jim Marshall who played for the NFL Vikings in the 1960s (he once picked up a fumble, got confused on the direction and ran the ball into his own end zone for a safety). Or the Jim Marshall, former baseball player who is the first Mets player ever to be booed by New York fans (opening day at the Polo Grounds the fans wanted former Dodger hero Gil Hodges but he had a minor injury and Marshall got the start).

Heh, as “Jim’s Son” you’d think you’d know better.

Maybe I should have titled the thread: Guitarists, rock fans and tinnitus sufferers…

RIP

Instead of a moment of silence, there should be a moment of loud.

Well I haven’t played though my “Marshall” Marshall in a few years*, but I play through my little “Park” (which was in fact made by Marshall**) pretty much every day, and often loudly at the weekend. I’ve made a lot of noise with his amps, cheers Jim.

  • It’s just too fracking loud!

** Down the road in Bletchley Jim Marshall is a bit of a local hero, but he’s got stiff competition from Alan Turing

Huh? (cups hand to ear) WHAT? WHO DIED? SPEAK UP! Marshall…? The Amp GUY ? Cant hear over the ringing in my ears!
Rest easy, Jim.
