Except for the unaffiliated Lil’ Sambo’s in Lincoln City, Oregon.
College Inn, from whence I guess the often advertised College Inn chicken broth originated. Mmmmmm; soup stock made of collagen :dubious:
The same tiger with a parasol logo.
That logo comes from the original book written by Helen Bannerman in 1899, not from the chain.
And Canarsie has Long Won (actually really good take-out).
There’s a takeout place called “Asian Boy” where I live. Just sounds wrong.
Not a restaurant, but there was a business that went by “Analtech” for many years. I always joked they made state of the art butt plugs. They finally changed the name recently.
I guess they couldn’t copyright it as their logo.
Yea I have called it up-Chucky many times.
One problem with milk bars is that you always wonder whether they serve moloko plus, vellocet, synthemesc, and drencrom, and what sort of clientele they might attract.
There’s a piece of logging equipment known as a choker. It cinches a cable around a log so it can be dragged to where the trucks are being loaded.
In Aberdeen, Washington, is Gray’s Harbor College. Their mascot is Charlie Choker; a burly guy holding a choker. The cafeteria there is called Charlie’s Cafe, which is harmless enough. But I was always sort of entertained by the signature dish, the Choker Burger.
It’s actually pretty tasty, just a cheeseburger with a slice of ham added.
Interesting. Wonder if the owner was a Aussie expat. Probably not.
I’ve eaten at that one several times over the years. Took the kids to it one time just for the weirdness.
[nitpick]
Pudgie’s Pizza, you mean.
I’m originally from Elmira. Pudgie’s is my family’s go-to pizza joint on the west side, the one right next to Red Barn. We trust a fat cook, eh. Who wouldn’t want to try some of Fat Johnny’s Donuts?
I’ve noticed quite a few chip or kebab shops in the UK using the name Titanic. Now, okay, they’re presumably intending to suggest bigness, but they do usually opt for signs with pictures of ocean liners.
after 9/11 the local media found a place right near Ft. Bragg called Osama’s Place. I think they changed the name. (like the drug company Isis changed their name to Ionis)
Ayds Weight Control candy.
There is seriously a pizza place in Indianapolis called “D&C pizza.” I am not making that up.
They went out of business. But I think their main ingredient lost FDA approval, and that killed it as much as the name.
Around here there’s a local chain of Indian/Nepalese restaurants called Yak & Yeti.
The food is good, but I really don’t feel that either of those critters conjures up very appetizing thoughts.
Doritos and Chocolate pizza? That sounds pretty good.
