Well, the WoW UI forums are about as useful as a soggy blender (don’t try to make sense of that), I was wondering if there is a mod, a clever WTF hack, anything, that can turn off:
A) The XP: (Number) after killing an enemy.
B) The name of the target.
Now, on B, since this is easily misconstrued, you CAN turn off enemy names, in the default options you can NOT turn off the target names. Go ahead, try it, I’ll wait, untick everything under “names” press alt+z and target an enemy, he’ll still have the name over his head.
I’m making a mechanima-ish thing, I might post it after I’m done. If worst comes to worst I can live with the names, but it’s really annoying when you’re going for cinematic immersion.
Since those have never bothered me, I have no idea, but have you tried asking the blues? 99% of the time they’ve been useful and they normally have no problem walking people around by the hand.
When you play WoW on a Mac, there is a built-in movie function. I can turn off my UI only when making movies (I see it, but the movie maker doesn’t). This didn’t turn off the mob names, so I went into the interface settings and turned them all off.
I had to use my hunter, since my mage is 80 and doesn’t get xp any longer.
As you can see, the only time a mob name or any other text appears is when I loot the mob, or the mob is more than 20 yards away. Not sure why it appears at distance and not close up, but there ya go. That’s the best I know how to do.
EDIT: I just watched the clip on youtube, and HOLY CRAP do they compress the shit out of it! The file is only 52MB, and the original looks perfect. The quality on youtube sucks (sorry).
I know I’m a pita about this, but I’ve been many times in the situation of seeing something that was broken and didn’t get fixed because those who could fix it didn’t know it was broken. If you ask about this, and there isn’t a way to turn it off from the regular UI, it may make its way into the To Do list. There’s several current features that I know came from questions/complaints/suggestions from players.
