Agreed, it was a good series but it wasn’t some cult hit. It’s the kind of older middle-of-the-road series that should be released in a full season set for around fifteen bucks.
Here’s another example of strange pricing: The A-Team. It ran for five seasons and all five are out on DVD now (which raises the question of why so many better series are not). Seasons One, Two, Three, and Five retail for $34.98. Season Four retails for $49.98.
Why? They’re all three disc sets (except for the four disc first season) put out by the same company. Season Four didn’t have more episodes than Season Two or Three had. There was no significant cast change in Season Four.
It’s common for earlier seasons to be cheaper (esp the first season) so they can “hook” you and you’re willing to pay more for other ones. Too bad won’t work on me.
Sea Hunt, there are a few poor quality bootleg sets around but I’d kill for a legit release, especially after seeing how great they look on Hulu.
I’m likely part of a very small minority who’d buy them but I’d love to see more soap operas on dvd. Currently Dark Shadows is the only one with a real release. As the World Turns and Guiding Light are getting best-of’s but that’s really it. I figure that something like Days that has all it’s episodes would work great for MOD DVDs, especially since almost all of the episodes up till the mid to late 80’s are completely unavailable in any form legal or otherwise. Heck if they’d just put em up on Amazon or Netflix I’d be happy.
I’d personally rather watch paint dry But wow I can’t believe they haven’t done that either - one of the things that I thought was always annoying (to many at least) is how often little really happens on any given episode…to be able to watch a bunch and see the story unfold in much quicker time…I’d think these would sell like hotcakes.
I agree you should try to get it on dvd WITH the original music if you can. Try googling the discussion forums because I know they have them out there from a reliable source. I have mine and watch it all the time. Wouldn’t trad it for the world.
I’ve never heard of That Was the Week That Was…what is it?? China Beach is available by googling it on discussion forums…great copy. I have mine and love it…original music too. Sassy Lassy
I’ve seen some of these…like When Things Were Rotten on “ioffer”. Some of the others may be there also. It’s a great place to pick up movies and series when you can’t find them anywhere else. At least that is where I go to get mine. I found the Ginger Tree there. My hubby found When Things Were Rotten and Journeyman.
You and me both, Poopsie. I’d love to see the entire run of TMLODG on DVD.
I’ll have to look up “ioffer”; I came here to post Dobie Gillis and “When Things Were Rotten.”
(Sheriff? You’re not talking.") A few years ago I found one episode online, with nearly unwatchable picture quality.
LA Law. I really want the complete series on DVD; maybe its owners consider it too much “of its time” and think it would seem dated today, like Lou Grant.
This is a four-part miniseries only but I’d love to have a copy of Mother Love with Diana Rigg on DVD. I check periodically to see if it’s been released but I’m slowly giving up hope.
