Over the New Year, they showed a lot of marathons on TV. That 70s Show, Monk, Law and Order (well, they do that daily), 24. Me, I watched the annual Twilight Zone marathon on Sci Fi. Best one there is, in my opinion.
There’s probably beeb a marathon of every show at least once on some channel…so what’s a marathon you’d watch (if you had the time and knew it was on)? Even if you’ve seen a marathon of it before, some are so good, you could watch the shows over and over.
Me, I’d love a Rosanne marathon. Or a Married With Children one. I’m also dying to see a Wonder Years marathon, although I don’t think one is coming any time soon.
Nip/Tuck I’d love a marathon on, but it’d take up a pretty big time gap.
And then there’s some I’d like a marathon of just so I can start watching them from the first episode. One’s like (already mentioned) That 70s Show and 24. Also, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Lost, and House.
Yes, I know I could buy the DVDs and watch them all in a row then, but that would require money…something I don’t have much of. So thus, marathons that would be shown on TV.
I’d watch a Green Acres or The Beverly Hillbillies marathon. Both have been done already, I think. I’d be all about a Have Gun Will Travel marathon. Finally, a Dark Shadows marathon would be a useful learning experience because it’s one way to get the human mind to truly comprehend the concept of “eternity.”
Logo had a marathon of Wonderfalls going over the holidays. I didn’t catch it when it was originally aired on broadcast TV. I’m now a big fan of the show and wish it hadn’t been canned.
The 1980s version of The Twilight Zone, which thanks to Santa, I now own all the episodes and started my own marathon.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the classics, but I’ve seen them so many times, and the newer ones so few that I wanted to see them again (and they are outstanding, I forgot Wes Craven directed a lot of these).
I’d like to see several short run series reaired, like The Ropers, Open All Night, Bagdhad Cafe and other series I liked but only lasted a few episodes.
Others I’d like have been mentioned here, like Barney Miller and Northern Exposure and Green Acres.
Police Squad (they actually did this on Comedy Central, at the time they released one of the Naked Gun movies)
Men Into Space – I haven’t seen this series since it was originally broadcast in 1959. I don’t think it’s ever been on VHS or DVD, or even syndicated. Even books on SF TV rarely have anything about it, not even episode listings. Only on the Internet has more info about it come out. very good, hardcore accurate science fiction, from what I recall.
Starlost – I know it’s supposed to be awful. But I’ve never seen it. Again, AFAIK, never re-syndicated , VHSed or DVDed
Tom Corbett, Space Cadet – again, I never saw any of these.
Mission Impossible – the first season or so, back when it was new and really good, pre-Peter Graves.
Conections, Connections 2, Connection 3, The Day the Universe Changed – I love James Burke’s series
The Pretender – It’s finally out on DVD and I keep being very tempted to buy the set but the truth is that I’m not a huge fan of tv on dvd, I don’t know why…
I’d also love a Ripley’s Believe it or Not marathon. Not the Dean Cain ones (which suck, IMO), the 1980s Jack Palance ones. It was my favorite show in that era.
There was a WKRP marathon on TVLand or Nick At Night a few years ago, which I have on tape. I’d like to see marathons of *Midnight Special, Laugh-In, The Smothers Brothers’ Comedy Hour, Batman, *and Connections with James Burke. Plus another vote for Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert.
