For starters, I had no intention of the other thread going off the rails the way it did. That was not my intent.
I do not have a problem with the mod action taken, except for the language used. I object to a moderator saying, in her official capacity, “don’t pull this shit”. In my view, that is unprofessional and inappropriate. The more common “don’t do this again” or preferably, the more polite “please don’t do this again”, or some other, non-cursing variant thereof is fine. Moderators should not swear at posters.
The sole topic of this thread is whether or not “don’t pull this shit” is appropriate language for a mod to use in her official capacity. Please, everyone, do not derail this discussion with blaming Twicks for pretty much everything that has gone wrong since Eve tossed Adam an apple.
Honestly, that is an unfair hijack. Weather or not his choice of language caused the derail is irrelevant.
He expressed regret for the other thread going awry and is asking for clarification of a point. His title might be dramatic, most likely for effect, but the question is legit.
My opinion which is worth less than nothing? The language is no big deal.
I don’t remember any great hue and cry, back in the day, over manhattan’s “I am the fucking hall monitor”. In fact, I seem to recall there being considerable approval.
Yes, we’re all grown-ups here, and the occasional four-letter word doesn’t hurt anyone. I like it that the mods are human beings, even though that means they make mistakes from time to time.
It is the same principle as when I draft divorce pleadings. I say something like “Plaintiff is entitled to a divorce absolute, of and from defendant, on the statutory grounds of Habitual Cruel and Inhumane Treatment.” I do not say “Defendant is a wife beating cocksucker, and I’d really like the Court to rip his nuts off.”. Odds are pretty good I actually think the latter–but you just don’t say that in a pleading. When a mod puts on the Mod Hat, they speak with the voice of the SDMB. An official statement by a company representative is not the place for colorful vernacular.
If you don’t fucking like our fucking language, don’t fucking come here. Mods are people too.
I mean…if certain words and phrases disturb your heightened and pristine sensibilities, perhaps you should refrain from gathering in such places where certain words and phrases traditionally habituate.
I long for the days of being moderated by the fucking hall monitor. Dopers were under the correct assumption that moderators weren’t around to fart rainbows or change your diaper, and that acting like an idiot would have you treated as such by TPTB. When did people start becoming such shrinking violets? Sack up.
