The first kudos to an optometrist. I have been having problems with an eye (started with a detached retina and downhill from there) and my eye surgeon thought maybe new glasses would help. I went to my wife’s optometrist (was unhappy with mine for not warning me that a plethora of black spots in that eye was a symptom of incipient retinal tear) who spent a half hour listening to my tale and examining me. At the end of that time, he said that while selling glasses was his business, he was not going to sell me glasses that he was convinced would not help my vision over my current glasses.
The second kudos to a podiatrist. Both my physician DIL and my foot-care specialist told me that orthotics have to be refitted after 5 years. Especially, since I have lost 30% of my body weight in the meantime. Since mine (for plantar fasciitis) were more than ten years old, I made an appointment with a podiatrist. Not the one who made them in the first place, but one recommended by my doctor. She examined my feet, looked at the old orthotic (which are made from a very hard plastic) and said that while selling orthotics were her business, she saw no reason to change these. They were in good condition; I have had no recurrence of the fasciitis.
So two professionals who refused to take advantage of me.
The raspberry goes to FedEx. My wife bought something on mail order on Saturday 8 days ago. When we got back from shopping on Wednesday morning, there was a notice that FedEx had made its “final attempt” at delivery that morning. It was also the first attempt. There was an 800 number on the line with the final attempt box that was checked. When I called that number, which I had assumed would give me some way of arranging redeliver options, I was put onto a horrible voice mail system that could not even understand the simple word “English” and put me into a French sequence. I had to hang up and call again. Eventually, I got the information, using the tracking number, that it had been put on the truck that morning to be delivered by 5. It wasn’t. Later I realized they meant the original final delivery. Until then, one of us was always home the rest of Wednesday and all day Thursday, but there was no redelivery. Apparently, it has already been returned to the merchant who will resend it using the post office. The merchant said that in the future we should specify post office. But that could be done only using phone order, not online. One big red Pbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt to FedEx. How do they stay in business?
