Two Requests for Good Vibes

Man, this has been a crappy week.

My husband and I got home from an extended weekend trip to Lexington on Sunday afternoon. Around 4:30 or 5:00, I get a call from one of my best friends, and she’s completely hysterically crying.

Turns out that her dad passed away that afternoon while the rest of the family was at the pool (she was at work). He was only 61. While he wasn’t in the best of overall health (diabetic, overweight, smoker), he hadn’t been complaining of anything in particular lately.

He just sat down in his chair in the living room, and took a nap.

His calling/viewing is tonight, and the service is tomorrow. Please add the H. family of Indianapolis to your good thoughts.
Also, I got a call from my mom yesterday while I was at work. Her husband has been sick (vomiting) since the morning of June 28th, and she finally decided to haul his ass down to the emergency room (of Wishard, for those of you who know Indy). Well, it turns out he has pancreatitis and possibly gall stones. According to the ER doctor, his pancreas is “hot” - literally warm from infection, most likely (my MIL had this too).

I haven’t had much time to look up material on these conditions, but he’s also in his 60s, a smoker, and he’s a biiiiiiiiiiiiig drinker (cheap vodka, straight and warm).

From my little reading, I have gleaned that he MUST give up drinking once this passes (pray it does) if he wants to stick around.

So please add the H. family and my stepdad, the Reverend R.L., to your seemingly never-ending list of pray-ees.

Thank you in advance.

Removed the names for the sake of privacy, and safety - CF

Hon, you really want to give your stepdad’s name along with his drinking habits? Mods? Maybe you’d consider changing this?

I’m send all above, and you, my best thoughts.

Good thoughts to those folk, Avarie537.

Avarie537, I removed the names of the people involved. It really isn’t a good idea to post that sort of thing on an Internet message board, especially not when some rather delicate information accompanies the names.

Having said that, I will keep your friends and stepfather in my thoughts.

Oh thanks Coldie.

Brain’s a little scrambled right now.

dropzone, the reason why I mentioned the drinking is that from the little I have read, drinking is more than likely a cause or at least a factor of the development of pancreatits, and webmd.com mentioned that in one particular study, something like 50% of patients who recovered from pancreatitis who didn’t stop drinking died within five years. So it’s a going to be a difficult recovery.

Here’s hoping he’ll listen to such compelling information so you and your mom can have him around for awhile. Sorry about your friend’s dad. Our thoughts are with you all.

Warm and positive thoughts headed their way.
