Bullshit. There is too
A catch-all Diogenes pit thread? Whenever someone thinks Diogenes is being an ass, they can politely direct him over there rather than risk taking over some other thread.
Make it a sticky.
All I gotta say is; Dio, if you cannot post in a way that shows respect for other posters and contains at least some self-recognition that you are not 100% right at all times, you should not be posting in that thread.
I reported you in the pepper spray thread because you were being a jerk. You were talking out of your ass and being disrespectful of everyone else. You are not an expert on the ramifications of martial arts and submission techniques on children, or the dangers of pointed sticks. If you are neither modest enough or intelligent enough to recognize that about yourself, then you are not half as smart as you think you are.
And what exactly stoppped you from putting this in The BBQ Pit?
We are discussing it in THIS thread. Dio keeps saying “report me”, so I informed him in this thread that I had done so in one of those threads, and why.
As has just been posted:
Well, this thread is useless without pics. I mean, Steophon is apparently banging someone’s daughter at some kind of a show where there’s cars and fairgrounds and everything, and I’m just pulling up a chair with some popcorn to find out just what in the hell is going on.
False.
People say other posters create “The Dio Show” and his main problem is that his opinions are too strong or ill-informed, or whatever. Not so. A lot of people have far crazier ideas and a lot of people express their views obnoxiously. He creates the Dio Show by psycho-posting to threads repeatedly, ending all possibility of a real discussion. Dio denies this obtrusive posting style, but I don’t know how he can do that with a straight face when everyone can see that he posts a jillion times, often back-to-back to a single thread.
In that thread Dio is post 54, 55, 56, 58, 59, 62, 63, 66, 69, 71, 72. He’s just there over and over and over again. It’s not like he just makes one crazy post, someone responds, then he responds back with another crazy post. He clogs up the thread with his shenanigans.
But it wasn’t a “pointed stick” - according to Dio it was just a “flimsy piece of paneling”. Obviously all of the articles posted to in the thread were incorrectly describing it. After all, Dio couldn’t possibly have been wrong.
The article said it was a piece of baseboard pulled from the wall. The article did not say it was some kind of “spear” or “deadly weapon” capable of “impaling” a human body. Anything an 8 year old can pull off a wall is not going to be anything to worry about. I’ve taken away worse weapons from bigger kids. I admit that I don’t know how to think like a pussy, though. It wouldn’t occur to me to be afraid.
Also 35, 36, 39, and 40, most of which are in response to jokes.
Sounds like a shiv to me.
Every post is a response to someone else.
Sounds like nothing to me. It wouldn’t scare me any.
I’ve been staying out of this thread since Dio posted earlier* but I just wanted to mention that I whole heatedly believe that if you were to look at his computer all the cites you throw at him would be unclicked. I truly don’t think he looks at any of them.
*I’m following the advice of others. If you look at my post in this thread, I quoted Dio saying that he never called anyone a nasty name, then a few posts down I showed him calling other people nasty names. Fast forward to the next page (on my computer anyways) and there he is, quoting my first post saying he never calls people nasty names, completely ignoring a quote, directly from him doing just that. As much as I wanted to take the bait, I’m just leaving it alone. I wish others would do the same. Continue on with your own conversation when he gets like that. Don’t quote him, don’t talk to him, don’t respond to him in those threads.
But, as noted, there’s always going to be people that haven’t dealt with it and don’t know better, that’s how I got sucked in the first time. Hey, I’ve been here better then a decade and it only happened to me for the first time not that long ago, I didn’t know any better. OTOH, it didn’t take that long for me to realize that I was arguing with a brick wall and I gave up and walked away. As my dad taught me “Sometimes you win by letting the other person think they won”
Very well said, Ellen. My only concern is that item #1 is a bit vague, particularly since Dio clearly doesn’t see a problem with how he posts about his opinions. Finding something quantifiable to point to as part of your future moderation requests in this area will both make it easier for him to comply (while still remaining able to participate) and easier for others to see an improvement (which will hopefully calm down the “oh no, it’s the Dio Show!” chorus).
One thing I find that tends to send threads Dio participates in off the rails is the sheer volume of his posting relative to everyone else. For example, in the thread about the police pepper spraying the 8 year old, Dio entered the discussion on page 2. On that page of the thread, he made 19 of the page’s 50 posts, nearly all of which restated the exact same statement in response to different posters’ posts. That is terrible message board etiquette – if a new poster came into a discussion on global warming and simply posted that global warming was fake 20 times in a row, he’d be rightly warned or banned as a troll.
I’m not in any way suggesting that Dio be given a quota of posts/thread or anything like that. But when that type of posting starts, it’s something the mods could point to and say “look, if you have a new argument to make, go ahead and make it, but otherwise take your comments to a new Pit thread about how stupid everyone in this thread is and let other people have a chance to continue their discussion in this one.” And then follow it with warnings when he continues to try to outshout the rest of the thread.
I also think that once people see you guys are doing something about this particular nuisance, most of the Dio show comments will stop. Those that don’t can be asked to take them to the Pit or warned for junior modding or thread hijacking, depending on the frequency and severity.
I think he does.
That’s part of the problem with this board. We always have to find something quantifiable. I know of other boards we’re things are played a bit more fast a loose. If a poster needs time to cool down, there’s a place for them to do that. Nothing has to quantified or defended.
Am I supposed to ignore posts direceted at me and not respond to them?
