According to a report on TORN, the theatrical release will be available on August 26th.
The extended edition will be available on November 18th.

Fellowship EE had 32 more minutes
Towers EE is supposed to contain 43
Anyone for King EE to contain 54 extra minutes? (I honestly don’t know how PJ’s going to cram everything that’s still left to happen in RotK.)

Don’t be too surprised if the theatrical release of ROTK is over 3 1/2 hours.

The extended edition should add in many of the important points from the book that missed making the theatrical release of the film, including more on Treebeard and the Huorns at Helm’s Deep

We have a great scene – which I really would have loved to put in the theatrical version – where he recites really bad poetry to the Hobbits, who are desperately trying not to fall asleep because that would be rude, and they don’t want to be rude. In addition to the Treebeard material in that storyline, we also have a really funny sequence with Merry and Pippin and the Ent-draught, which is pretty much taken right from the book. There are a lot more surprises in that extra Fangorn material.

Being on the inside, Makoare also has a “very strong hunch” that Peter Jackson will be making The Hobbit.

I am SO hoping for PJ to do The Hobbit! Imagine what he could do with Smaug! And Mirkwood! OMG, he just HAS to do this!

Okay, I’m drooling. I’ve also heard we’ll see more Gollum on the extended edition, so I know which version I’ll be hoarding my pennies for.

Here’s a site which will show a bit of the menu artwork for TTT DVD. It’s about halfway down the page if the site doesn’t pop up at the right spot. I approve of the subject matter of this artwork! It was one of my favorite scenes in TTT.

I don’t want to start another LOTR thread, so I’ll ask here about a nugget of info that may be in ROTK:

Did I read it or dream it that PJ plans that the way he’s going to the great weight of the Ring is to portray it as cutting into Frodo’s flesh? Anyone else read that somewhere?

Your Spoiler. I’m confused. Frodo is not wearing the ring the vast majority of the time. The ring is attached to a chain, which he usually wears around his neck. Are you saying the ring is going to “cut into his flesh” as he wears it around his neck?!?

Yup, Fingolfin, that’s what I meant.

And my memory is inexact, as I stated above, but I believe I read that when Sam goes to remove it from Frodo’s neck, there will be a great dramatic moment when he discovers how horribly it has been weighing upon him.

I wish I could find where I read that bit, to confirm my memory. I’m thinking it was from Ain’t It Cool, but I can never find anything on that site again when I look for it.

I’m not sure where the Huorn comment came from, but it wasn’t from PJ. Doesn’t mean it won’t be there, but don’t get your hopes up either.
