We just need to decide on a Saturday afternoon meeting place, and then the itinerary can be posted.
detop: sounds cool.

The closest BelleProv to Old Mtl I could find was at 1 Ste-Catherine E. In other words on the corner of Ste-Catherine and St-Laurent. in the heart of the Red Light district
Yeah, wasn’t there a robbery at gunpoint there a couple of months ago?
Let’s not go there.
Let’s choose a more park-like place to meet Saturday afternoon.
I want poutine!
Carry on…
A suggestion : we could go for poutine at the BelleProv where we held PoutineDope (or go a block further west to the Green Spot). Since it’s close by the Lionel-Groulx metro, it would be easy to jump in the metro afterwards and go to Old Montreal.
Okay. Everything’s ready and together. I’ve got my birth certificate and driver’s license in my wallet, and I’ve got my directions to The Pad of Evil downloaded onto my Palm Pilot.
Last call for goodies from the US.
Robin
Robin, bring your passport, just in case, though I doubt it will be needed. Better to be safe than sorry though. In fact, I will be VERY surprised if you need to present it, but I don’t want you to have to turn around at the border.
If you stop by duty free and feel the urge to but a 26er or 100 proof Southern Comfort, I will pay for it when I see you.
See everyone (mostly) tomorrow! Woo!
LaurAnge, may I be so rude to ask if I may park at your house, even if I do not stay there?
I must be drunk already. Sigh.
If you stop by duty free and feel the urge to buy a 26er of 100 proof Southern Comfort…
What is a “26er”? How much is that avoirdupois? (We have fairly well-priced liquor stores in the US.)
And I don’t own a passport. Never needed one, but always intended to get one. According to the Canadian immigration and customs site, though, all I need is driver’s license and birth certificate. Bringing my marriage license won’t hurt, either.
Robin
26er: 26oz: 750mL: pint and a half or so: 1/5 gallon?
I can probably do that.
Robin
Right, at long last…
**Doperéal 2003
Friday, August 15:**
8:30 PM: Dinner at St-Hub Resto-Bar, 1019 Ste-Catherine est, corner Amherst. (Between Berri-UQAM and Beaudry metro stations.) Reservations under the name Cecil Adams.
Following this, we’ll meet up with stragglers around 10 PM at Le Drugstore, 1366 Ste-Catherine est. (Beaudry metro, turn left when you exit the metro.) Look for the SDMB sign, a one-legged Wonder Woman doll, a shoddy plastic dinosaur head on a stick, and a retarded frog. From Le Drugstore, we can do any number of things, such as go dancing, hit a non-Gino bar on Crescent, go to a drag show at Chez Mado…
Saturday, August 16:
1:00 PM: Meet for lunch (poutine!) at La Belle Province, 3001 Notre-Dame ouest. (Near Atwater market. Metro Lionel-Groulx, turn right when you exit the metro, and walk down a few blocks to Notre-Dame.) From there, we’ll hop on the metro and go to Old Montreal, the Old Port, and whatever else.
8:30 PM: Dinner at Reuben’s Deli, 1116 Ste-Catherine ouest, corner Peel. (Metro Peel.) We’ve reserved the back room under the name Cecil Adams. The back room is non-smoking, but there’s a little loungey area upstairs near the washrooms where you can probably smoke. Following dinner, the sky’s the limit. Eonwe and CuriousCanuck want to do a beer-tasting competition at some point.
Sunday, August 17:
12:00 PM: meet at the “puck” in Berri-UQAM metro (in the open area surrounded by the turnstiles). From there, we’ll take the yellow line to Jean-Drapeau station, and meander up to La Ronde for a day of heart-stopping rides and overpriced concessions. Admission (with unlimited rides) is $29.55/person, which is about $35 after taxes.
After that, you’re on your own.
Metro and bus: a strip of 6 tickets is $10. A three-day tourist pass (carte touristique), is $14 or $15 (the STM site is down as I type this; I’m sure matt_mcl will be along shortly to clarify). It allows unlimited travel for the three days indicated on the pass, but you have to show it to the ticket-taker (there’s no magnetic strip to let you through the turnstiles). You can theoretically get tourist passes at most downtown metro stations, but beware of grumpy ticket-takers who deny they have any.
If there’s anything I missed, please let me know.
*Au plaisir de vous rencontrer … *
Holy crap, there are a lot of cool rides at La Ronde - it looks way better than it was when I went in 1987…
I must go on the Disco Ronde!!!
Woohoo!
I hope my tiara doesn’t fly off on the rides.
I should clarify - this is at the TOP of the metro station. When you get out of whatever train you’re coming from, just walk up until you can’t go any further without going through a turnstile; then stop. The “puck” is in the middle of that room.
I’ll check on the tourist pass fare as soon as the STM site comes back.
Everyone go to this page: http://www.laronde.com/en/promo/
Click “Save $5 on the regular price of a 12 years and older rides admission” and print the coupon!
(matt or Laur, can you print up a few extra?)
Cool. It looks like we’ll be coming on Friday after all. MrDisco, myself and Hollywood will see you at St. Huberts!
I’m stoked for the rides on Sunday. I haven’t been to an amusement park in a few years.
Scott Evil - ‘Disco Ronde’ has got to be the coolest ride name ever.
I love the nightlife,
I got to boogie,
On the disco ronde!
Seriously, those rides look really cool. I want to go on them all!
Ok, so apparently I’m coming up today instead, if that’s ok?
I do need to be back here tomorrow during the late morning, so I’ll still miss the Saturday day stuff, but count me in for tonight.
Eonwe: but you’re coming back for the Saturday night/Sunday stuff?
Also, MsRobyn is on the road!
