In my bro-in-law’s neighborhood, leaves get raked to the street to be picked up by the town. Makes Thanksgiving parking a bitch, but otherwise there is not a lot of street parking. I could see them getting upset if all the raked leaves are scattered by joy riders back to the lawns.
Sounds like a typical bad neighbor. They don’t necessarily have to be old, just bitter. Nearly everyone is alloted one per lifetime. uetke may have gotten some overflow. I spent one summer at my grandmother’s. It was in a retirement community.

Heh… I’m just wondering what kind of nightmares uetke has when he realizes that in about a decade or so, those folks over 60 that he hates so much will become the most powerful single block of registered voters the world has ever seen.

Are you really still that upset over your sister having to wait a while to get a broken arm treated? Anyway, if you’re going to be mad at someone, you should be mad at the paramedics. Last time I checked, you don’t need to ask about other people’s injuries when you call an ambulance, it’s up to them who to treat first, based on who seems most urgent. It’s not the old guy’s fault your sister broke her arm, he has the right to call an ambulance at any time, same as everyone. If I called an ambulance for any reason and someone got mad at me, saying I should have sent them over to a more “important injury” I would laugh in their face too.
At least get your facts straight before you go off on something.
When I was four I stuck my hand through a glass door and slit my wrist, deep. I was gushing blood everywhere when my parents calmly applied first aid and then put me in the car and drove me to the hospital themselves. Also an option.
When I was renting a house in college we would throw parties but never got complaints, even though we had old people on our street. See, we made it a point to be on good terms with our neighbors. Some of them would even come over for beer!
And no, this wasn’t 50 years ago. I’m 24. Fuck you for giving young people a bad name.
During high school I worked at a nursing home. Yes, there were some real assholes there (I could tell you some stories!). But 90% were great. And you know, I’m willing to bet that if I knew all of them when they were 23, there would still be the same assholes there. Because usually your character does not suddenly change when you turn 60. The person you are when you are 23 is basically the person you will be when you are 60. In fact, usually people learn and grow from their life experiences into better, wiser people. Hopefully, you will too.

I am one of the low post count people. I have only been posting for two weeks or so. I have read many of the threads in BBQ and this is the first one that has made me feel that I have to say something.
Does Uekte have problems. Yes
Have the people on the SDMB complained about his attitude. Yes
Have the people on the SDMB tried to help him. Maybe
Has anyone offered any constructive advice or sympathy. Don’t think so apart from “Why don’t you move?”
OK. The above is very much an oversimplification. I know from having watched the boards for a number of months that the majority of people here do care about others. You only have to look at the outpourings of sympathy when a Doper has a personal problem. Uekte has a personal problem. Let’s try and help.
Can someone here not offer some constructive advice for Uekte ?
It seems to me that Uekte has an underlying problem. Maybe the vitriol directed at older people is just one symptom.
Uekte are all the old people in your immediate area a total waste of time, space and DNA or are there some out there that you could reach out to. Maybe if you could put aside your hate and disrespect for a moment, you could find the time to actually talk to one or two of these people. To offer some help with, for example, taking out the trash, as a way to make contact. You may find that when you get to know these people that they are not all as bad as you believe. If you can reach out to one or two then maybe word will get around that those young guys who live down the road are not as bad as they were thought to be.
These old people have lived many years and had many experiences that may help you to understand more about life and about growing up.
I would hate to see you go through life without trying somehow to deal with this deep set feeling of animosity towards senior citizens.
I have read that the aim of the SDMB is about fighting ignorance. That should not mean just passing on information, it should also be about sharing and caring.
Am I the only one who feels that Uekte should be helped rather than condemned ?
How do I know that I am probably going to be flamed for the above ?
I’m picturing all the old people next to his house are like that lady that throws cats from the simpsons.
