Changing the litterbox is never a desired duty, but frick, it can be a whole lot easier when you’re not dealing with a shredded litter box liner.
We used to use the Johnny Cat brand jumbo liners; they’re big (we have a deep, covered box) and they’re tough. Now it seems said liners are nowhere to be found…and none of the replacements are anywhere near as good. We have three brands of bags in with the litterbox now! The Tidy Cat would be GREAT if it were the right size. The others, no matter how they’re billed on the box, are basically thin trash bags.
So I’m reduced to asking the Dopers on a Wednesday night about litter box liner bags. Ah well. Whatcha recommend?
I have some really large litter boxes, and for one in particular I have to buy regular trash bags to fit it. I try and buy the extra-heavy ones if I can find them. I have had success with the Van Ness liners (I think that is the name).
On trick is to line the box with a section of newspaper. I usually do it under the liner (the section of newspaper is between the litterbox bottom and the liner), but you might try putting the liner on, putting the newspaper section in, then pouring the litter. Then you’ll have an extra layer down. You might also end up with a mess of shredded newspaper too, I don’t know. My cats are pretty good about not shredding too bad.
OMG, I would die if they ever took my Johnny Cat liners away from me. They used to be made directly by Glad (now they’re “Glad For Johnny Cat”) so check out if they might be hiding any under the Glad label. When they were sold by Glad I could only get them at Target.
Kroger has a store brand called Pet Pride which is marginally acceptable, though not as strong as Johnny Cat.
I opened this thread to suggest the Johnny Cat liners. They haven’t stopped making them, have they? The last time I went to the store, they were out, so I tried the Tidy Cat liners. Last night, I found out they were too small, so I used a big lawn-sized trash bag.
Kalhoun, we use scoopable litter. We also use the liners because the scoopable stuff gets a little gross after a while and needs to be completely dumped. Interestingly, one of our litterboxes (we have 2 cats, so 2 boxes) doesn’t have a liner because of its unusual shape. While that works fine, that box tends to be a big pain every now and then when it needs scrubbing. :::yech:::
