Just a heads up for the Ugly Betty fans, new episode tonight.
Note to self: tape Earl, watch Betty . . .
I watch Earl, tape Betty.
Watched Betty. I hope they don’t do too many flashback episodes, because I’m confused enough as it is.
Does Bradford want Daniel to succeed or not? Is Wilhelmina willing (is Willy willing? ha, I crack me up) to sacrifice millions of dollars worth of Mode business in order to make Daniel look bad?
I wanted them to tell Oshi his clothes were stupid. I thought the Gucci bag was ugly. The photo of Betty and her mom and the bag was a bit of a stretch, unless they were saying that the Gucci bag was a rip-off.
But very clever, Marc stuck with that fake bag. Will he dare bring it to work?
Loved Justin “I’m gonna call all my friends!” Mom “Oh no you’re not!”
Man I loved this episode. The parts where Betty was looking at the picture of her mother with the bag just tore my heart out.
I don’t relish the thought of going back to watching Survivor next month. Guess I will have to be happy with watching episodes online.
So this episode was new?
Dammit, I got confused about halfway through and stopped watching. THe beginning seemed obviously new but then they went back to a time when she was broken up with whosit and I thought maybe I just caught a clip from an upcoming episode so I stopped watching and erased it. I wasn’t really paying attention for the first 10 minutes, that’ll learn me.
Anyone want to spoil the last 20 minutes or so? Does she, by any chance, hoch the real Gucci, buy her dad’s meds and a fake with the rest?
Close.
She trades the Gucci to Maria at the pharmacy for 15 refills for her dad’s meds. Walter sees her trading the bag and buys her the knockoff. She trades the knockoff to Mark for something I forget and a favor to be named later. Mark doesn’t realize it’s the knockoff right away, but Betty knows that he’d never admit that it was a knockoff so she comes out on top of the deal no matter what.
So…a question? With this move to another magazine in the Meade empire, what happens to Wilhelmina and Mark and Daniel and Amanda (and the seamstress, whom I LOVE, for that matter)?
I don’t think it was intended as a flashback - it seems as though they did originally intend this to be somewhere around episode 2 or 3 - but decided to show a stronger ep instead in order to keep viewer momentum up.
So instead, they filmed a couple of frame scenes with Betty, the seamstress, and the janitor and called it “flashback” so they can show a sequential series way, way, way out of order.
With regard to the other characters, they are only one floor away. And Betty will probably end up at MODE again, soon.
She trades the knockoff to Marc for the unnamed favor plus another knockoff.
I’m trying to decide whether “I’m calling all my friends!” “Oh no you’re not!” is my favorite line or if it’s “Stop looking at it!”
The clothes looked like they were made out of coffee filters.
amarinth, I bet you’re right about how this ep was filmed.
I loved seeing more of Christine. Great character. Too soon for a spinoff?
Something that bugged me was Bradford confronting Wilhelmina about using company funds to pay for her butt lift – in front of everyone, even an important client.
Ah, brought back memories of the many sample sales we had at my old magazine . . . It really was a knock-down, drag-out feeding frenzy. I might add, though, that we charged a nominal fee at ours, and the proceeds went to charity! Probably some eating-disorders clinic or something.
I love Christine! She’s Betty’s Sookie (for the Gilmore Girlians here)…the quirky voice of reason.
Ah-ha! That falls right into place, jayjay, and makes total sense. Thanks!
I have yet to watch this (but I knew it was out of sequence, so I’m not worried about getting spoiled), but on DishNetwork, it lists it as Episode 4. So definitely shot earlier in the season, and it looks like they just did some fancy footwork to make it fit in now.
I’m still wondering why it wasn’t aired in order.
(And I am so excited to hear that Justin has a good line…I LOVE THAT KID.)
E.
Because it was the weakest episode of the season by far. Had this episdoe never aired we wouldn’t have missed it. It didn’t fill in any detail about ongoing storylines that we didn’t already know and compared to the rest of the season so far just wasn’t that good. The only possible thing that might get called back is the favor that Marc owes Betty.
I don’t get the Christine love that others are expressing. She’s pretty much the meh-est part of the show. She was useful in the very beginning when Betty had no allies, but now she, Marc and Amanda have something of an alliance of convenience (and in Amanda’s case perhaps some genuine beginnings of camaraderie and affection) Christine is superfluous.
What can I say? I’m a sucker for an accent!
In my not-so-humble opinion, the purses that everyone seems to love nowadays with the prints of gold chains and the “hardware” all over them look like purses that, up until a few years ago, would only be seen on the arms of tacky older ladies from Queens. They’ve been co-opted by fashionistas and still look ugly, but the picture actually made sense to me.
Thanks for the info. I’ve never seen a bag like that, so it was hard to believe there would be two – one a current fashion statement and another owned 20 years ago by Betty’s mom.
The bag in Betty’s picture didn’t look anything like the new bag, did it? The general shape was the same but wasn’t the mother’s bag without patterning?
It wasn’t easy to tell from the photo, but Betty’s mom’s bag wasn’t a solid color. There was a pattern, and the colors looked similar to the fashion bag. I don’t know if the pattern was the same though.
Another thing is that it makes sense for it to have been an actual designer bag, given what we NOW know about Betty’s mother that we didn’t when the “flashback” parts of this episode were supposed to have aired.
