Ugly cars

Last night Cardsfan and I were driving home and I happened to glance out the window and saw the most hideious car. Has anyone see the new Chrysler 300? What is up with the front grill on that thing? They bill it as a luxury car with a hemi in it, but good lord who would want to drive that ugly piece of metal.

I swear that car would be great in “Christine” or “The Car”. It’s just plain evil looking.

What cars have you run across lately that made you say, “what in the world were they thinking when they built that?”

:smack: hideous :smack: seen :smack:

I swear I need to proofread before hitting the Submit button!

You wanna talk hideous, talk about the Honda Elephant. I mean, Element. Ugh.

Scion XB

Takes the title previously held by the Pontiac Aztek. Honestly the Scion looks like sonething that we built out of old cardboard boxes when I was a kid.

I sort of like the Honda Element, although it’s certainly weird looking.

Yeah, that new Chrysler is pretty bad. So are the Chevy Avalanche and whatever that strange Pontiac SUV is called (on preview: the Aztek!! Cheers :)). It’s a good thing I only have to witness them when I’m in America. It’s not that they’re unavailable over here, it’s just that nobody buys them.

As for plain fugly cars, I recently saw the one that will top the list for months to come, although you North Americans won’t be too bothered by it: the all new Seat Toledo, ferchrissakes.

And I didn’t mean to imply that North Americans don’t have taste, BTW. It’s just that Seat doesn’t export to the States and Canada, to my knowledge. Hence, this abomination will not bother you.

We have the Toyota Matrix that looks pretty close to that Seat of yours.

Matrix

Yeah, I’ve seen the Matrix. Uh, the car, of course. I don’t think it’s TOO horrible, but it certainly isn’t a looker! Then again, few Toyotas are.

Oh, I just realised that perhaps I should clarify: Seat is Spanish, and hence is pronounced “say-yad” or thereabouts. It’s part of the Volkswagen group. In fact, that there Toledo is essentially a VW Golf V underneath. And I never thought I’d say this, but I’d pick the Golf over this car anyday.

Here’s a funny website for y’all: http://www.uglycars.co.uk/

LOL Thanks for the link. Those are some pretty ugly cars  Glad mine didn’t make the list!

The PT Cruiser is a little too close to a short hearse for my tastes.

Susan

We own one. It’s different looking. but damn it is practical. We can haul a good amount of stuff around, we can fit four tall people in the car, and best of all, it is small enough that I can parallel park it in DC without too much trouble.

I swear - I didn’t see this article before I posted:

Chrysler Recalls Over 438,OOO PT Cruisers

Susan

Before anyone else gets a chanch to bash it…my lil’ Suzuki Aerio SX may be funny-lookin’, but looks aren’t everything…

The Cadillac EXT: It’s a luxury sedan. It’s a pickup. It’s a luxury sedan and a pickup!

Honda Element definitely gets my vote.

And the Pontiac Aztek, which to me, looks like someone stood on its tires and stretched the thing upwards. :shudder:

Uh, I totally blew my Aztek comment.

Shoulda read:

The Pontiac Aztek, which looks like someone stood on a Honda Civic’s bumpers, and stretched it upwards.

And for cars made ugly by their owners, there’s Beaterz. Too bad that site has been pretty much dead for the past three years, I’d have a good one to send them.

I think the Pontiac Aztek and the Honda Element are really ugly.

I really hate any car that’s Taxi Cab Yellow or School Bus Yellow. That seems to be all the rage around here, but I hate it. Why would you want your car to be the same color as a cab or a school bus?

I actually like the PT Cruiser (especially the ones with wood paneling). susan foster, my husband also thinks the Cruiser also looks like a mutant hearse. He thinks I’m nuts for liking it.

I love that car. Come one! Its got suicide doors!

I knew when I opened this thread that the Element would feature prominently.

My upcoming weekend plans include buying a Honda Element. When I first saw it, I thought it was hideously ugly. It seems less ugly to me now, partially thanks to the Toyota Scion being out on the road. It might just be fatalism, since nothing else has the head room I need in a car. Also, it is perfect for camping and hauling the dog around, two activities which currently consume a fair amount of Mrs. Giraffe’s and my time.

But apparently, none of these things have succeeded in making it less ugly to other people. Damn.
