Howdy, all! Just wanted to pop in to say that unfortunately, I will be there only in spirit, as it appears that 'm starting a new job a week or two before that. Have a Diet Coke for me, and someone poke *ianzin in the ribs when he least expects it!
OK, so we have some semblance of a plan - Silver Cross - 27th November from about 2pm onwards?
Food-wise, I’d suggest a restaurant of some description. What would people prefer? There’s the Mongolian BBQ that we went to last year, or apparantly, there’s a very good Indian (not neccesarily curry) place near Piccadilly Circus which comes highly reccomended. Any more suggestions?
Bodeans was good foodwise, but the wine was pretty poor. And NO CIDER! If Tansu comes and we were all to dress presentably, could she get us into the Oxford & Cambridge Club on Pall Mall? My aunt took me to lunch there recently and it was £20 a head including wine for very good food.

I was sort of Big Chief Organisation Tsar last time, when we ended up at the Mongolian BBQ, and I have to say that in my opinion it didn’t really live up to expectations. The novelty of the ‘DIY meal’ is kinda fun for first-timers, but otherwise I didn’t think it worked all that well, and they seem to put the prices up every time I go there - which is a bit rich since they don’t really need a chef as such or even a kitchen. Whereas the curry house we all went to at Angua’s Dopefest in Brum was superb.
So, anyway, I suggest we just take advance votes how many think they will want to eat, book a suitable table for that number at the nearest Indian that will take us, and pile in.
Daaaaaaamn that place kicked arse!
Angua - when come back bring takeaway…
Garius - you’re getting mine pies, what more do you want?
Well, we could just find the nearest burger van instead.
On Angua’s suggestion here, I’d register myself as a possible-first-time-innocent-naive newbie. No idea if I’ll get anywhere near London Village in November, but I’ll try. …
Mwahahahahahahahaha!!!

OK, now Angua’s baking is really worrying me… …
Its not the baking you have to worry about. Its mad insane people with writing icing, or marker pens, or people putting nails up their nose and setting FIRE to things.
You’ll need to do more than that to impress me.
D&R
Meh. Everyone’s a critic nowadays.
Does drinking for 14 hours straight like I did with these guys last Saturday impress you?
Personally, i’d not bother walking back up to Piccadilly for a curry - theres probably somewhere near the Silver Cross. The two i’ve been in round there were really expensive and no better than standard fare curries - location for tourists rather than hardened curry fans.
Like most of us.
Does this mean I’ll have to recant my longstanding objection to going into crap curry houses?
- I am not a member of the Oxford & Cambridge Club, and I wouldn’t consider a traditional club setting to be suitable for an internet gettogether. Pubs are far more onesizefitsall.
- I probably won’t be at the Dopefest anyway. Travel will be either slightly too expensive or take slightly too long, and I may need to work on that weekend.
I’ll be there. Is there a special Doper uniform or do I just come in my swimming trunks and snorkel as usual?
Do we have a sign up to guide us or do I have to worry people by asking them ‘I’m a Doper. Are you?’
We tend to be recognisable. We’re generally loud. And we’ll be colonising the downstairs bit of the Silver Cross…
Just don’t do what rekkah did when she first came down to one and get stuck with the wrong group of “internet people.”
It was a good ten minutes before my conscience kicked in and i decided to rescue her from the the Dr Who fans.
Yeah, but Garius we all know you have an evil streak. Not as evil as mine, but its getting there.
