UK Football Season 2009/2010

So what’s new then me owd cock;)

How wrong is it to say I want to give the point back, hmmm?

Utterly disgraceful effort by Ngog. Should be suspended for at least a couple games for that. Liverpool should be ashamed as a team.

So Wednesday evening my hairy son phones me and tells me he has tickets for the Rochdale v Luton FA Cup replay.

I tootles on down to sunny Rochdale there to watch them get stuffed 2-0.

Ah well, no probs, now they can concentrate on winning Div 2

And today they get stuffed at home 2 - 3 by Chesterfield, which leaves them in third on differential, tied on points with two other teams (including the aforementioned Chesterfield), but only three points adrift of the leaders.

Up the dale!!

Well it’s hardly a stuffing as you so eloquently put it. Again Dale went 2-0 down before pulling it back to 2-2, then they fuck up and allow The Spireites to score a 3rd goal.

I’m seriously beginning to think my presence at Spotland is putting the mockers on Dale.

Manchester City drew 2-2 with Liverpool and having had a run of 5 draws it would appear that chances of winning the prem are less than hopeful.
++++++

In other news the mighty Rochdale beat Dag & Red 2-1(away) to move up to 2nd in Div 2.

Promo is deffo on the cards.

Up the Dale

I note that Rochdale managed to come back from down 0 - 1 (away, no less!) to do that! Good showing.

Up the Dale!
Oh, Leicester comfortbly placed behind the front runners Newcastle and the Baggies in third, as they try to obtain their ticket back into the Premiership. If they make it this year, will be interesting to see what happens the first game that MO’N goes back to Leceister…

I’m, um, a little under the weather - anything happen this morning that wasn’t highlighted on BBC livetext I should know about?

I’d kill for the vid of the ref dropping the cards right now.

lolz @ Wigan

total spanking by Tottingham Hotspurts earlier - 9-1, with Defoe bagging 5.

first time since 1995 that a team’s scored 9 in the Prem

Oh fuck it. I had a friendly bet this year that, by christmas, Peterborough would be higher in the Championship than Tottenham would be the Premier League.

I think I owe someone a box of chocolates…

Went to Spotland last night, the Dale were 1-0 down but fought back to beat Notts County 2-1 to cement their position as 2nd in the division just 1 point behind leaders Bournemouth.

Bournemouth were thrashed 4-0 by Dale a few weeks back

Up the Dale

And the blessed, blessed Tigers continue their ascent, defeating Everton 3-2. 15th place and counting. Hurrah!

And you play Man City next.

Remember the 5-1 thrashing last season and Phils bollocking of the players on the field at HT?

You may be in for a repeat;) but then again knowing MCFC and their penchant for screwing up…

Is Robinho going to be back for that game?

Last night’s defeat to Hull was disappointing, but most Blues will take it in their stride. It’s come on the same day as the most important announcement in the club’s recent history - the Government have refused the club’s planning application to move to a new stadium outside Liverpool, in the commuter town of Kirkby. Apparently - don’t think an official announcement has been made, but it’s being reported everywhere.

I’m over the moon, and think it could represent a great escape from a badly mis-placed, conceived in desperation, idea. It also should make the position of the chairman untenable, again a good thing as Bill Kenwright now needs to pack his bags and make way for someone else. He’s been OK, but four seasons of zero net spend and a failure to deliver a new stadium tells it’s own story.

The stadium issue really split supporters, bitter arguments for and against moving to Kirkby. Seemed to me like all hardcore supporters were uniformly against it, with the more casual fans in favour. I’d rather watch Everton play in the second division then go to a retail park in Kirkby and watch football in a second-rate, identikit cow-shed.

It’s turning into a rough season for the Blues, but at least one thing has turned out right.

There’s a strong possibilty that he will. Having recovered from injury, and it’s taken bloody long enough, word is that he’s ready to grab the Tigers by the tail

You will know a lot more about the club than I do but I seem to remember that Kenwright was hailed as a true supporter when he invested in Everton back whenever it was.

In any event hasn’t he put a lot of money into the club? Maybe he’s reached the limit of his ability/wish to spend more on Everton?

Is the lack of planning permission down to Kenwright?

Looking in from the outside I just want to say though, that under the circumstances I think Moyes has has done exceedingly well, some might say given his resources, punching above their weight?

I think most neutral fans would regard Bill as a great chairman - he’s well connected in the media where Good old Blue Bill articles regularly appear. There’s some truth in it - he is a genuine Blue and when you look at the catastrophes occurring with the ownership of clubs like Liverpool, Newcastle etc I’m happy to have him. He has invested nothing in the club, though, outside of his initial purchase. I put more money into Everton going to 2 games a season and buying six pints and a couple of pies.

The stadium fiasco is one thing, but the total failure to build on Moyes’ successes is what really rankles. Bill caught lightening in a bottle with Moyes - unbelievably good manager to get from the first division (Preston NE) who has consistently been denied the investment to establish some sort of platform for development. He needs to sell a player to buy a player - usually last minute in the close season, and it’s just impossible to build any sort of long term progress under that regime.

It reminds me a bit of Roy Keane’s withering assessments of Jack Charlton with Ireland. Most fans were over the moon with Jack - first time in living memory that Ireland were a really competitive side, beating good sides in the WC etc. Roy, being a glass half-empty type of guy, realised that they could have actually been so much better. With the good corps of players that they had, a proper manager could have taken them further. With Everton, compared to the misery of the late 90s - Howard Kendall III on the piss and not really caring who knew about it, avoiding relegation, club on the verge of administration, Bill’s tenure is a godsend. But when you consider what Moyes could be achieving with just a little more backing, it’s frustrating.

I don’t think so, no. It’s actually a surprising decision, most people were expecting a rubber stamp. Kirkby is a very deprived area, and the development would have created 1000s of jobs. The club presented a shambolic transport plan as part of the bid, but that wasn’t even mentioned. It was rejected on the basis of the large retail development being harmful to small communities nearby - there was an enormous supermarket planned as part of it.
