Easy question, can’t find an online answer in a quick search. When I had an old MegaDrive (Genesis), a game I bought in the US would not work on my UK console. Does anyone know if a UK bought game would work on my US 360 console?
And if yes, will someone please give me Championship Manager 2008?
It depends. They can, but quite often the makers of games region protect them so they can’t. Here is a list of games and which regions they are compatible with. It doesn’t list Championship Manager 2008, but the 2007 version was not compatible with U.S. consoles, so I’m guessing the newer one isn’t, either.
ETA: Oh, and just FYI, unlike DVD movies, there are no tricks to get around the region protection used in 360 games.
As far as I know, the biggest issue is whether they are PAL or NTSC which is not region encoding, it’s to do with the display format of the television. So if you had a UK game (which will be PAL) then you should be able to play it through a PAL TV. Many modern TVs will cope with both PAL and NTSC signals.
This is incorrect. Just like the original Xbox before it, the Xbox 360 will convert between PAL and NTSC. The region locks that are put on many/most games are the only things that keep 360 games from being played on both sides of the Atlantic.
Okay, Villa i’ve got some good and bad news for you.
The bad news first - everyone here is right. XBox 360 games are generally region encoded and will not work on US consoles.
Now for the good news (and it is very good).
First, a little background - the Championship Manager series was, for years, the result of a successful partnership between the developers Sports Interactive (SI) and the publishers Eidos. Then, in about 2005 they parted company from each other. The parting wasn’t completely amicable, but as these things go it could have been a lot worse.
The biggest issue at stake during the negotiations for that parting was the fate of Championship Manager - for obvious reasons.
The result?
Eidos got the rights to the name, but SI got all the code.
Thus, since 2006, they began publishing (through Sega) the now equally successful (and generally more critically acclaimed) Football Manager Series
So what’s the good news?
Well not only did the XBox 360 version of Football Manager 2008 hit stores just over a month ago, but - thanks to the fact that SI are pretty good at catering to their fan community (which includes a number of filthy colonials like yourself) - it is also multi-region.
From their offical press release back in March:
(Bolding Mine)
So whilst you may not find yourself a copy in Best-Buy, you can happily order yourself a copy from a UK online shop, safe in the knowledge it’ll work on your 360.
Enjoy!

I have moved from a poopy mood to a wonderful mood as I read the answers. Thank y’all for your assistance.
And garius, I am no filthy colonial! At the risk of blowing my cover, I am part of the advanced reoccupation party, suffering in the land of no cricket to work for the day when we can once again bring civilization to the huddled masses yearning to be free.
Heh. I was living in New York when we finally won the ashes. It was very annoying that no one understood why i was so happy or wanted to celebrate with me
