Umkay's banning

How many people do you suppose have used the words “kablooey” and “KWIM”, as well as the phrase “some people have it better than you, and some people have it worse” (which someone discovered both sezyoo and umkay did) on message
boards in the past month? at MINIMUM 1 in a thousand.

So, The odds that there are any 2 board posters out there at all, who have used all those terms? probably 100%… the odds of 2 particular chosen people who, after chosen to be scrutinized to determine if they are one and the same, are found to have both used all those terms in the past month, and not be the same person? probably close to 1 in a million or more. The odds of those 2 people not being the same person, after you factor in the above, and then the several other unusual “coincidences”? Probably 1 in billions.

I was aware it was not a perfect analogy. Best I come up with on the fly.

It has served me well this far.

As for umkay, it’s still not as funny as, er, um, He Who Must Not Be Named, though it’s pretty good.

As a lurker who followed all these threads*, I just want to say a big thanks to everyone who did research on this, and the mods for communicating that she was banned, and why.

*You canNOT get this kind of entertainment anywhere else. What movie/show/opera has the drama, the conflict, the schadenfreude that you get here every day?

Well yeah. To a charity. But I think “you should probably give to a homeless shelter than the Nigerian Prince. In fact, just don’t give to the Nigerian Prince,” is still a reasonable response.

I have posted about mine, because it is new. But only after 10 years of posting about other stuff.

What kind of historical reenactment?

Voldemort?

For fucks sake it’s his fucking money and he can spend it on whatever he wants to.

A) It’s the internet, I can question whatever the fuck I like.
B) It’s not a matter of “worthwhile”. It’s a matter of not really knowing who’s actually asking for the money and whether they are full of shit or not.

The only reason I mentioned that to fifty-six is because just last month he gave away some money to another Doper whose need for it was questionable, to say the least. I appreciate his need to “give back”, so I thought he should consider doing it in a way that he won’t end up feeling used and lied to.

Holy Crap, I am not weakened reed that will bend and break at the slightest breeze.

It is 14 freaking bucks. I can spend it how I want. I don’t feel bad or used or lie to. You have absolutely no idea who or what else I give to. Charities can be fraudulent as well. Plus Lute gave me my money back without asking. I am out nothing. It is an insignificant amount to members of the site or to the site itself that I am not gonna miss.

I am fully aware of the internet and its dangers. This was a safe transaction. Both financially and emotionally.

If you don’t want people discussing, judging or criticizing your spending habits, don’t post about your spending habits.

Er, um… exactly how much does “insignificant” equal?

And I fucking paid my fucking money so I can fucking post that he fucked up with his fucking fucked up fuckitude, fuckity fuck fuck.

Webster’s abridged dictionary defines “insignificant” as $14.95.

Yeah, it’s your money. I just thought you were going about this “give back” thing in rather stupid way. Nuff said.

Nope. It used to be that only members could use the search engine, but that hasn’t been the case for awhile now.

People, who fifty-six chooses to give his money to is way off topic. Start a new thread in the Pit if you want to go after him personally for this; start a new thread in GD if you want to debate the matter theoretically.

In this thread, drop it.

Thanks,

twickster for the SDMB

Fourteen bucks times a hundred thousand ‘donors’ would pretty much do it for me. But if I were to make that happen via fiction I’d write a novel and sell it, not try and make fools of strangers. I both am and am not surprised that people are a little PO’ed about this whole situation. It’s friction on some people’s ethos.

What is fiction other than trying to fool a bunch of strangers? :stuck_out_tongue:

When a user is banned do the mods also have an automated script that searches for that users’ previous IP addresses, for other (or future) users from the same?

Curious.

Speaking generally, there is a function in the Mod Panel that makes it very easy to do a search like that.

Hate to take away from the various shit fights going on, but I believe the Admins and the Mods did a great job here.

Virtue is its own reward (I almost choked typing that!)
