Both of those statements sound perfectly reasonable and plausible. They doubtless wouldn’t meet with universal agreement, but they make total sense as personal statements of your individual preferences about female attractiveness.
I’d say you aren’t really distancing yourself from the crowd, though. I’ve not seen anyone actually defend the beauty of any of those actresses. Heck, I’m not entirely certain they were supposed to be all that attractive in their more recent roles.
You also really seem to be reading this thread poorly.
Some (many) men exercise their alpha-ness by belittling women (and other men, when the target is safe enough). They grunt and groan and cry, “look at me, look at how important I am; those bitches are beneath me,” in an effort to look strong and important in the eyes of their fellow men, and in the eyes of women who they attract by power-posturing.
Yes! they are SO beneath him, but it doesn’t matter because IRL he has scored what he thinks is a hot chick, lol! who he probably bullies and clings to like saran wrap.
They’re not “expressing vehement contempt or disgust”. They’re joking. When someone posts a screenshot from an old Twilight Zone episode, and says it’s a picture of some else, that’s not anger, that’s a joke. Is that really not obvious?
So, what, it’d be okay if they really were ugly (in your opinion)?
From that thread in 2010:
She has a reallly weird face
The massive forehead, bugged out eyes, fish lips? She a freak.
A couple of my guy friends call her “Old Hound Dog”
Her face is prominently featured in both pictures and just… ugh.
To me she looked like a shaved rat.
got beat in the face with a baseball bat and after some healing and plastic surgery this how she turned out?
I can’t freakin’ stand her. She needs to go away.
I get a gravelly-chain-smoker vibe from her
she looks like a thousand year old male Irish dwarf who’s been hiding in a tree stump
She looks like Miss Piggy.
If her eyes were any farther apart, she’d be a flounder.
old, ugly and fucked up
I’d say maybe your reading comprehension’s at fault for missing those, but clearly you didn’t miss them all since you actually quoted one in your reply to that thread. The only post in that thread even bordering on anger was the “war zone” one, at was a drive by from someone who joined the same day. And if you really can’t tell what this racepug character is doing in this thread, I suggest you lurk more, just on the internet in general.
Actually, you know what, that last one wasn’t from the other thread, it was in this one about Jack Nicholson. But that one was okay for some reason.
You may have some point of discussion about the tendency of people to be just be mean spirited towards celebrities in general. You know, because they don’t seem like “real people” (as well noted by Small Hen). But that’s something that actually happens on a large scale. But that’s not what we do here, is it? No, instead, let’s insist that there’s wide spread phenomenon of men being vehemently angry about unattractive celebrities, based on a few offhand comments and jokes we saw in a thread. Then we can spend the next several pages discussing the sources and implications of something we literally just made up in our heads. It’s the SDMB way.
