I think, though I’m not an expert in vBulletin, that it is possible to simply stop posting without making a public request.
You know very well that you don’t have to send anyone a request. All you have to do is stop posting.
I do hope that you stay but if you do want to leave, just leave.
Haj
C’mon, that would be like a crucifiction without the nails!
Let’s get the “I’m leaving”-show started!
…once again.
Well, it seems he would be leaving in part as a form of protest, and a protest is no good if no one sees it.
By the way, Esprix: evidently, I rock as well!
And ** RT, ** it’s a terrible disappointment. Both in the mere fact of it, and in what it says about how the administration views these things.
When I read the title of this thread a Spanish saying came to my mind: “Una cosa es llamar al Diablo y otra verlo llegar”*
*[sub]One thing is to call for the devil another to see him coming.[/sub]
If you’re serious, you can send e-mail to any of the admins. Or you can simply stop posting. Nobody’s making you do it. On the other hand, you qualified your gambit by invoking the phrase, “personal feelings.” I assure you our personal feelings had nothing to do with our decision; the decision made was what we believe to the best interest of the community. In fact, there are several staff members who said (paraphrased), “Personally, I wouldn’t mind allowing Satan to return; I just don’t think it would be good for the boards.”
So, the decision is yours, Mr. Cynical. I know you and I don’t always see eye-to-eye, but frankly, I rather not see you hang your hat on this and leave.
What a disappointment, and incredibly petty.
Shame.
Yep, just email an admin, they can suspend your posting privis without anyone knowledgable, I am pretty sure.
I don’t recall if I had asked for that during vB but I would think they can suspend them, and keep your name as an active member.
Aw Christ. Now it looks people piling on Mr. C. I’m sorry, man. That was certainly not my intent. None of those responses were there when I began composing mine. Anyway, like I said, I’d don’t wanna see ya leave over something like this.
Unclebeer, are you able to clarify how Satan’s unbanning would be bad for us? A show of forgiveness and his abject apology? What is forseen that would be so terrible, or any more terrible than what goes on here everyday?
I don’t ask this rhetorically, I am sincerely stumped.
So, this is the board that fights ignorance, right?!
It’s really unfortunate that people who say the most vile and hateful things on a regular basis, but are knowledgeable, get second chances, but worthwhile contributors who are well-liked, but have tempers that flare from time to time, don’t.
I know it’s the staff’s game, but why the pretense at fairness? A humble apology, combined with two years of absence and a plea to be allowed to make amends, isn’t enough?
I don’t mean to question you, UncleBeer, but how can it not be personal?
Posters who have plainly said IN ADVANCE that they will continue to flame, insult, and foam at the mouth, have been allowed back for a second chance, but an eloquent, abject apology isn’t good enough?
Jersey he got chances. lots of them.
frankly if you want to talk about posters who ‘didn’t get a whole lot of chances and who weren’t all that bad, and people liked reading their stuff’, where’s the “Bring back Wildest Bill” thread?
Yeah! I’ll go start that one now!
Actually I was a little bent about him getting banned, too. I didn’t realize silliness was a bannable offense.
Good point…
Bring back Wildest Bill, Bring back Wildest Bill, Bring back Wildest Bill, Bring back Wildest Bill, Bring back Wildest Bill, Bring back Wildest Bill…
Satan also deserves a second chance. Look at Kirkland and Collounsbury… What the heck did they say in their apology letter? (I didn’t think e-mail blow jobs were available)
Those two were as vicious as it gets.
thanks for linking that livejournal stoid. I saw his list of “you people rock”, which of course, co-incided w/folks who agreed that he should return. Apparently those who have misgivings about his return are ‘rockless’. Even if the feelings are as sincere and heartfelt as his apology.
And he took the time out to select Anthracite for some negative attention.
I saw his apology. I believe that it’s heart felt. He quite probably has changed, people tend to do that.
I also remember his banning. and I don’t blame the staff at all for saying : we wish him well, but we wouldn’t like to risk having to go through that again.
are you saying that kirkland & Collunsbury have been reinstated?
If not, then what’s your point?
Satan got tons more chances **before ** he was banned. The mods knew he was popular, had good posts, his banning would be devisive. They finally had no other choice.
Uh, wring, did you miss the part where he mentioned Diane and muffin positively?
They were both banned, then reinstated, then rebanned after showing no interest in reforming their ways.
I know for certain that kirkland was banned twice. I am almost certain about collunsbury.
SO?
