Uneducated pup

So there’s this dog who lives two buildings down. He’s a spritely pup, a yellow lab about a year old. I’ve watched him grow up in a family, with a yard and three kids who play with him for hours. He’s well fed and looks SUPER healthy, lean and muscular, he gets tons of fresh air.

This family…LOVES him.

BUT

and you knew there was a big but…

He is completely UNTRAINED. He runs out into the street, jumps on people (in a friendly, getting to know you way), pulls his owners down the street at a ridiculous pace and is generally WILD. He’s not mean or anything, and my dog certainly isn’t an angel of the training school, but I feel bad. These people are going to run into people who aren’t as friendly and nice as me someday and they’re going to be royally pissed when that pup jumps up and licks them and they won’t understand.

I’ve tried to have some friendly chit chat and discovered that they don’t speak ONE WORD of English. They (the mom and kids) just nod and smile at me.

I don’t know what to do. It’s such a sweet, happy pup.

Ahh, foreigners. Don’t worry, they’re probably just going to slaughter and eat the doggie for some foreign dog-eating holiday.

Nothing to fret, it will probably be hit by a truck (poor thing) before you know it.

Sorry to hear about it, it would break my heart to know that something bad is going to happen to that dog. It might just be another dog, or a really paranoid pedestrian carrying a stick or something.

At least it seems to be happy and have a good life, which is a lot more than most dogs with little or no training can say.

Most dogs I’ve come across that are as active as this one seems to be are genrerally not excercised enough, trouble is that some dogs require so much excercise that they really need to be working dogs.

Sounds like this one would be better off working with the police or a gundog or somesuch and fulfilling his potential.
