“Unexplained” scratches

So just now, while getting ready for bed, I found what sure looks like a thin scratch running up and down on my neck that I can’t remember getting. There aren’t any other nearby wounds that would explain any further. I don’t think this is the first time I discovered some scratch or wound I don’t remember getting. This happen to anyone else?

Have you had dream sex with demons recently?

Not lately.

God, yes. It’s usually caused by my pets or something I ran into outdoors.
I had a t-shirt I loved wearing. I kept finding scratches on my neck. I looked closely at the shirt and the thread that was around ringer around the top of the shirt was sewn with what appeared to be thin fishing line*. It was very sharp.
I ripped the thread out and resewed it with cotton thread.

(*It’s supposed to be invisible sewing thread)

All the bloody time! No idea what I do that should be so severe. I do get itchy legs through the night, prickly heat or some such nonsense, and go on a scratching frenzy, but if I’m awake I know I don’t cause an actual scar. So I must do it some more in my half-asleep state that I have no subsequent memory of.

In an article on the topic of contagion, they mentioned how research has shown that we touch our neck and face area at least 16 times an hour without consciously being aware of doing so. I imagine we scratch an itch many times as well.

Scratches and bruises for me. When I’m doing something - usually cleaning or yard work, but sometimes fun stuff - I’ve been known to walk into things or get too close to sticker bushes or whack my hand against a doorknob as I walk past. It’s quick, minorly annoying, and I continue what I’m doing. Then later, maybe in the shower or as I’m getting ready for bed, I’ll find scratches or bruises, or sometimes dried blood and I wrack my brain trying figure out what happened.

My husband says he worries about me, but this has been me for pretty much all of my life. I still have all of my extremities, so I’m not too concerned. Just occasionally annoyed.

I would say that my scratches/cuts/bruises that are easily explained are the outliers. Working in the yard, playing with our pets, caring for my gf’s horses, etc I get banged up.

Do you have anything like pollen or dust allergies? Just as they use scratch tests to detect allergies, the mildest, lightest scratch which is ordinarily invisible can be seen if any kind of irritant is present.

I work in the garden a lot and Pluto the spaniel has sharp claws, so yes, I do get a lot of “mystery” scratches.

Mine are usually from working in the kitchen, like a cut on my finger that I don’t remember getting.

Although sometimes I wake up with mystery scratches on my legs, because my wife has the jimmy legs and sharp toenails.

Give her some fun socks to wear to bed-preserve your skin integrity!:smirk:

I’m also one of those people who have unexplained scratches or bruises all the time. Nothing serious that wouldn’t go away after several days, but still so clear that you’d think I must have noticed and remembered the incident that gave me the mark. But no.

This is very off topic, but if your wife has thyroid problems the meds could be causing the issue. When I started treatment for hypo-thyroid, three days later the RLS started. I stopped taking that med and 3 days later the RLS was gone. I am now on Armour thyroid meds with no RLS issue.

To subject, I am constantly finding bruises on my arms and wondering which door I knocked into this time. I blame any and all scratches on the pets and most of them probably ARE from the pets.

You’d think I would have noticed banging my knee against something hard enough to get a bone bruise painful enough that I could barely walk, but no…

Between my sharp toenails, Lady SCAdian’s, and cats jumping up on the bed, I get a nice assortment of scratches, too.

…for a week.
