Uninstalled and deleted Firefox, old web sites still remembered

I not only used the Windows Control Panel to uninstall it, I used Search Everything and found and deleted everything named Firefox. On reinstall, it suggests web sites from many months ago, that I don’t want to be suggested any more. I cleared the history, but they remain. Anyone know how to truly wipe its memory?

Define “suggest”. If you are typing in an address in the address bar and getting suggestions from past searches or sites, in may in fact be Google providing the history, not Firefox. Firefox gives the ability to search from the address bar via Google, so that MAY be your problem.

Firefox has that information in your profile, and it probably doesn’t get erased when you uninstall it.

In Win7, the location is C:\Users<Yourname>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

(Appdata is hidden, so type it into the path instead of clicking on it.)

I did the same, completely uninstalled Firefox and shredded all associated files, and reinstalled, and it even loaded back in all my bookmarks.

Thanks! Deleting the profile folder did the job. My new reinstall has forgotten everything. It was worth reinstalling my favorite extensions.

for future reference, you can also get there by typing %APPDATA% in the address field of an Explorer window.

Can I put the profile folder in the trash, so I can get it back if I want it, but Firefox will think it’s gone?

Move it elsewhere, or better yet, zip it and move it elsewhere. Don’t use your recycle bin as a storage container.

Better yet, just type firefox -p in the Run dialog to open the profile manager. Make a new profile and everything will be fresh. Run firefox -p again at any time to use the old profile, no moving files around needed.

Tried this in the command window, and the search bar off the Start button. Didn’t work. Where are you typing this?

In the search bar off the start button, type “run” and then in the box that comes up (called “run”) type firefox -p.
