Unintentionally amusing headlines

They probably knew what they were doing but:

From the Birmingham Post

MYSTERIOUS HOLE APPEARS IN CITY STREET

Police are looking into it.

From the Daily Mail Online (Nurse! The mouthwash!);

“Biden wanted his first call to a foreign leader to be to Angela Merkel but she blew him off and he phoned Boris Johnson instead”

Doesn’t require you to click through slide show (just scroll)

Loved it!
I noticed one in the New York Times (online version, at least), a few weeks ago. Who knew that Roger Federer was a brave photojournalist in the Middle East? (And don’t give me none of that “Oxford comma or not?” jive. This is a straight-up mistake).

Sorry… here you go. (Thanks to “PostImage.” I know y’all love Imgur, but the sign-up wasn’t working for me — and I don’t WANT to make funny gifs).

Man Who Tried to Kill the Queen With a Crossbow Made Darth Vader Terror Video Before Breaking into Palace

Although it’s been a while, I couldn’t resist drawing attention to this one, in an email today from the Spectator magazine: GOVERNMENT BORROWING BALLOONS

Let’s hope the government gives them back when they have finished with them.

Meanwhile, in Briton; when Michael Foot was put in charge of a nuclear disarmament committee, The Times headline read,
“Foot Heads Arms Body”.

OK, that one HAD to have been deliberate.

Probably better than “Foot arms body’s head.”

The business pages occasionally offer puzzles if you’re not familiar with that world. A recent one over here was
OCTOPUS BUYS BULB

(Octopus is an energy company, as was Bulb).

And then there was a football match at the Crystal Palace ground, where a player called Queen was in an argument that got out of hand. Who could resist
QUEEN IN BRAWL AT PALACE

This is going to be dark but several years ago when there was that terrorist attack in Nice, France and so many headlines of “Nice Terrorist Attack!”

This is one I like.

BRITISH LEFT WAFFLES ON FALKLANDS.

Man crushed by telescopic urinal in central London dies
I found it amusing. (Up to the last word.)

Am I missing why that headline is unintentionally amusing?

Possibly. I doubt it was intended to be amusing.

Not so much funny as clumsily written:

I would have went with “10 people shot at shooting at Super Bowl parade shooting in Kansas City, 1 dead from being shot.”

The Brighton and Hove Argus has a reputation for these:

Close on their heels is the Dundee Courier:

This one was totally intentional. Journalists must live for these opportunities.
