Universal Life Church [edited title]

Just out of curiosity…How many of us Dopers are ordained ministers with the Universal Life Church?

Me, never had occasion to use it though.

I am.

Not me. I am ordained with the Church of Dudeism, though.

I am, and have used it to marry people, mainly gay and lesbians illegally, but it made them happy.

Nope. Universal Ministries for me, to avoid needing to look up the current laws and argue with clerks every time I want to marry people in New York City.

ULC and the Church of Dudeism here.

Me. Since 1969.

Long before computers, you mailed in your request, and got a certificate back, as well as some pamphlets. Never did use it to evade the draft, get discounts, or marry anyone.

Me. Also illegally married a gay couple. They wanted it for emotional not legal reasons, so it was fine.

Me for many years. More recently a crisis of faith has led me to explore Dudeism. Careful man there’s a beverage here.

ULC here! And I’m so jealous, I’ve only married a couple of straight people, legally. I’d love to marry gay or lesbians legally, though. I like the look I get when I tell folks I married 2 of my husband’s Sergeants.

Me, since 1998…

Me, since 2005. Haven’t married anyone, though.

Yep, since 2008 or so.

Me. Have been for years. I call my church “The Church of Nothing In Particular”.

Yes, the right reverened SeldomSeen here. At the time, I had it in mind to perform ceremonies for some gay/lesbian friends, but as it turns out, I never had occasion to do so. Still got the wall-hanging certificate tho.

It’s where my username comes from.

Well, I joined about 15 years ago, with the intention of marrying my sister to her fiance, but never did do that. And since it’s been so long, the email associated with that is long-gone, and the certificate who-knows-where, so…technically yes, but with no way to prove it.

ULC, Amen. Four weddings, all still together. Have given last rites several times, mostly hangovers that miraculously cured.

The Occasionally Reverend Valgard, ULC since 1988 (via old-fashioned postcard).

I’ve performed three weddings for friends, all the couples are still happily married.

When I got married (7 months ago today, happy anniversary honey!) my good friend, who was the guy who showed me how to become a minister in the first place, presided using his ULC credentials.

I have always had this fantasy of passing by a wedding that was in trouble because the officiant had car problems or whatever and I can jump in and save the day. Instead of “Is there a doctor in the house?” it’d be “Does anyone know a minister?”
