Well, my parents’ street still hasn’t been plowed. Same for my girlfriend. My street was plowed, but not by the county. It might have been local guys doing it on a volunteer basis, or the neighborhood HOA paying somebody.
I imagine they did the same at my son’s store - certainly when he called on Saturday to say he couldn’t get there, a human answered. I don’t know how many of the store employees are walkable - there’s a large-ish housing development very near, as well as thousands (literally) of townhouses and suchlike not much further - but with roughly 2 feet of snow it was NOT walkable.
I told my son it was up to him as to whether he should try to walk to work, but I discouraged it. If he had, I was going to call some acquaintances who live much closer and say “Hi, you have never met my son, but can he sleep on your couch tonight?”.
We were extremely fortunate, plow-wise. They came out and cleared our street Sunday. Since we’d cleared the driveway Saturday, there was much less snow that had to be cleared from that, and we were able to get out by 1:00 or so. My son had already called his store to say he couldn’t make it, but I encouraged him to call them after that and say he was now liberated. He wound up working longer hours to cover for folks who were still snowbound.
A Target near us was open Sunday - I think they were even open Saturday. They put employees up at a hotel a block away to accomplish that.
I haven’t been in the car today but yesterday, the main-ish roads near us were fine. Some of the tertiary roads, not so much from what I hear.
How are the roads in the district? I’m finally supposed to fly back tomorrow.
The main roads are ok, the side streets are hit or miss.
I’ve been at work the past two days but the patients are MIA. Staff made it in today at least but had little to do. I didn’t know the Fed was closed again today until now.
Your girlfriend hasn’t been plowed? You better get on that.
Oh believe me, as soon as I can get to her house …
The store I work at was closed Saturday, so I lost some time and money. Sunday I walked 5 miles on the paved streets to open. Good thing, too, cause I was the only cashier there. Of course, I let everyone know how dedicated (and demented) I was to get there.
Fortunately, the buses started running around noon and I was able to get one home.
