Unreasonable about roommate and his guns?

Unfortunately, the girlfriend has made it clear what she thinks, and the friend might be scared. Worth a try, though… After the move, of course.

Just to ask, OP, how did you know the shotgun was loaded? Not that it makes a huge difference, but not knowing much about them, I was curious.

Wow just wtf!

Well you had painful life lesson for sure. Take this second lesson to heart as well and and report this to the police.

I really don’t want you coming back on here in a few more months informing us that he has shot and killed his girlfriend, wringing your hands that you could have prevented it if you had only reported it at that time.

Don’t just move out. Call the goddamned cops first. This guy is fucked up and is going to end up killing someone.

So what happens when he has a big argument with you about the phone bill and decides to kill you? Who’s going to stop him like you did with his brother? You roommate is an unstable lunatic with a drinking problem and a couple of guns, but what’s the worst that could happen?

The first issue are the rules that Matt and you have for living together.

For point 1, if there was not a ‘no gun’ rule then I don’t see an issue with him having a gun.

Points 2, right after this there should have been a zero tolerance policy regarding alcohol and firearms.

Point 3, no guns ever. Matt went over the line and all it takes is one time for Matt to make a mistake with a firearm to put you in danger. Unless Matts brother had a weapon and was putting either of you in danger.

Matt can be the Bro-iest Bro evar but that doesn’t count for much when faced with a loaded weapon and even less if you are leaking from places you shouldn’t be.

You need to take a hard line to protect yourself.

Holy crap. I’m glad you’re okay.

Please make a police report. And don’t let him know your new address.

I come back late to this thread, but you took my post at face value?

I guess I must work a bit more on my sarcasm. I meant roughly exactly the contrary of everything I wrote.

Point one is no big deal. Points 2 and 3…I’d be looking for new living arrangements immediately. Totally unacceptable behavior. I wouldn’t be living with guns in the house at all personally but those last two items I can’t imagine being ok with regardless of your general outlook on firearms.

I’m glad that you weren’t hurt, and I agree with the others to call the cops once you are in a safe place. I don’t know if he would be arrested and convicted, but at the very least it would start a paper trail so that he’ll have a record of threatening people with guns, and make it more likely he will get convicted in the future. Because I have no doubt he’ll do something like this again.
