Unusual house colors you've seen

My house is pink too, but it isn’t a very common color at all.

At least I know which lawn to pass out on when people drive me home…

Yes,A red door in a home is a sign of welcome. I did find this even though its a church, I believe it came from an old world custom, not exclusively churchs.

The house across the street from me was recently painted bright pink with purple and turquoise trim. It’s growing on me, believe it or not. My house is tan with brown trim and it’s way ugly.

Golly, I thought the only black house was in Hermosa Beach, CA. Two doors down from us near the east end of Seventh Street. Black lightly speckled with glitter!
Notice you never see black refrigerators, either.

Hey, there’s a house like that near my neighborhood in Wisconsin. It’s brand new. The trim around the windows is that bronze/ brown aluminum color.

I don’t understand what’s going on there. When they built it, half was turquoise and half was grey. Now they’re painting grey over the turquoise siding.

Have you ever been subjected to the city planner’s idea of painting your new wall the same color as your house?

It took several confrontations from my mom and my neighbor, with whom she had split the cost of the wall, to get the guy to back down and let them leave the damn wall alone. As it was, they would have had to paint it beige on one side and dark blue-gray on the other to match the houses!

There are five completely black houses in Olympia. One guy owns them all and rents them out. To get in, you don’t fill out a rental application, you write an essay on why you should get to live in a black house. There is a lot of competition to get in. There was an article about them in the paper back in April. I’d post a link, but it’s been archived and you have to pay to see it. Stupid paper.

I saw a house while out dogwalking today that was dark magenta with a lime green door. They’d painted the shed to match.

Ah, the pepto-bismol house. I drive by that one all the time. It is eye-catching isn’t it?

I had a distant cousin who owned a house in Savannah’s Historic District (which has extremely strict rules about house colors). When she died the new owners painted the house a dark pink. The Historic Society Foundation went ballistic and threatened to sue and force the owner to change it. He was able to present them with a chunk of paint taken off an exterior wall (there were several coats put on over the years) and show them that the pink he used was the original color of the house. He had sent the paint sample somewhere to be analyzed just for this very reason. The HSF backed down.

There was a huge old victorian painted flat black with fire engine red trim a couple blocks away from us in Louisville. And we had a smaller victorian painted a hideous shade of purple just down the block.

There is a small neighborhood in Sacramento of older (20’s-40’s) houses surrounded by light industrial properties. It’s sort of a “residential island” of very nice homes, and as such the residents there have rather strong feelings about how their neighborhood should appear.

Several years ago, someone in this area thought that green and purple would make for a nice color scheme for his house. Many of the neighbors complained about the “Barney House” and demanded that it be repainted because it was driving down the values of the surrounding properties. Alas, there were no CCR’s in this neighborhood, so they could not force the owner to do anything. He stubbornly refused to bow to the will of his neighbors, and the house stayed green and purple.
Until one night a few weeks later when it burned to the ground.
Unfortunately I can’t locate any online news story (this was at least 5 years ago, maybe more), but I don’t believe anyone was ever arrested.

Let’s see…

Neon Green siding with hunter green and white trim.
A teal and brown house next to one that is dusty sky blue and beige.
There is the black and cream cement house that used to be a warehouse.
The is the magenta and violet house.
There is a dark brown wood panneled house with neon orange shutters.

Then there are the people that have a partially restored victorian farmhouse that is several shades, and in has been in various states of repair for as long as anyone can remember. They paint the house every year, yet one whole outside wall is rotting and unpainted.

Somebody down the street just painted their house in, um, Extremely Bright Unnatural Blue. That’s the only way I can say it.

Finally! I was home the same time my son was awake, so here is the house I mentioned a few days ago…sorry it took so long.
